A walk through life toward eternity

We Cannot Undo What God Promises

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,
let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us,

and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of faith,
who for the joy set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 12: 1-2 NASB)
  • By faith—Moses’ mother hid him for three months, not fearing Pharoah but Almighty God.
  • By faith—Moses grew to become a man while living in the palace.
  • Moses could have received the treasures of Egypt since he grew up in the palace as the son of Pharoah’s daughter.  However, Moses considered the promise of God—greater!
  • By faith—Moses left Egypt during Passover.
  • By faith—Moses led the children of Israel out of bondage.
  • By faith—Moses followed God to lead them across the Red Sea.
  • By faith—Moses led the children of Israel to the edge of the land of Promise.

Imagine standing on the top of Mount Nebo located in the Holy Land.  Maybe you have been there, but I have not, so I need to imagine standing there at the top of this 2700+ high mountain.  God told His 120-year-old servant to climb to the top of the mountain, and once Moses reached the top, he was given a view of the Promise Land.  Moses could see the Dead Sea, the land of Canaan, the city Jericho, and all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.  God allowed Moses to see it all. The Bible is clear about this fact.

“Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo,
to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho.
And the LORD showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan,
and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh,
and all the land of Judah as far as the western Sea,
and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho,
the city of palm trees,
as far as Zoar.
Then the LORD said to him,
“This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying,
‘I will give it to your descendants’; . . .”

(Deuteronomy 34: 1-4a NASB)

We Cannot Undo What God Promises!

  • The servant of God Moses knew this TRUTH.
  • The apostles knew this TRUTH.
  • So many individuals recorded within the canon of the Scriptures know this TRUTH.
  • Even today, thousands of years later, so many know this TRUTH.

So, the question becomes:  Why do we sometimes fear that the power of God will not sustain us as He Promises?

It is Peter (one who walked by faith & one who also understood the presence of sin, of disobedience to God) who sought repentance & the forgiveness Jesus provides.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again

to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
to obtain
an inheritance
which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you,
who are
protected by the power of God through faith
for a salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time.”

(The First Letter of Peter 1: 3-5 NASB)

The Christian band CAIN sings the melody “Friend in Jesus” that contains these lyrics:

“You don’t need a Savior if you don’t know sin and shame.

You don’t need forgiveness if you have never walked away.”

  • We do not JUST need Jesus to go to heaven.
  • We need Jesus for every single day we are alive.
  • We need Jesus for every second because of who we are:  Sinners in need of a Savior.

We have all gone our own way, chosen to live apart from God, to rule our own lives.

Let us not deny it but embrace the fact—THIS IS WHO WE ARE—ALL OF US—SINNERS—WHO DESPERATELY NEED GOD’S GRACE.

It is also Paul, one who understood the presence of sin, of disobedience to God.  Through repentance, we receive God’s forgiveness through the only way—the salvation Jesus provides.

“In Him,
you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed,
you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
who is given as a pledge of our inheritance,

with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession,
to the praise of His glory.”

(The Letter of Paul to the Ephesians 1: 13-14 NASB)

Hallelujah, We Cannot Undo What God Promises!

  • May we walk by faith, live by faith, exist by faith, witness by faith, testify by faith, love by faith, die by faith—knowing that the Promise & Power of God will keep us, sustain us, and walk us home to heaven.
  • May we keep our eyes on our Savior Jesus Christ.
