Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

The Reality of Our Passing Birthdays

On the day Jesus died, everything began, everything changed.

Forever, everything now remained prepared for those who love and trust Him.  “Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” (The Gospel According to John 19: 30 NASB).  Christ Jesus died on the cross, paying our sin-debt; nevertheless, Jesus is alive, though He died, and His Life changes everything.

“The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”

(The Psalms 16: 5-6 NASB)

God is infinite, unchanging, and eternal.  He has no beginning and no end.  What He promises yesterday, today, and tomorrow remains truth.  He has prepared a place, not like earth filled with time and space, but a place for all saints, when this life on earth has ended.

“I will bless the LORD who has counseled me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set before the LORD continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

(The Psalms 16: 7-8 NASB)

Think about something as significantly important as our earthly bodies.  They change, they age, they recede, and they become frail, child-like.  Cyclical, becoming what we once were, when our parents cared for us, carried us, and kept us from harm.  The LORD counted the hairs on our heads, and He counted the heartbeats we will live.  God did all of this before we even lived a single day.

Our bodies age, become achy; our skin sags where it once appeared taut; our steps become slower where they were once quick; and we realize how we are closer to death than birth, but God never ages, never changes, and never leaves.

EVERY TRIP AROUND THE SUN & WITH EVERY PASSING BIRTHDAY—OUR LIFE PASSES.

Contrast our life with Almighty God’s existence.

  • We were made to pass through; but God remains.
  • We were given a certain number of days; but God existed before the world was created.
  • We walk each day through life, fully aware of how our bodies are aging; but God does not change—EVER.

We who believe in Christ Jesus as Savior will go to the place God has prepared for us; but God has been there in heaven, here on earth, and everywhere, transcending time and space.

“Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.”

(The Psalms 16: 9-10 NASB)

Christ Jesus is our portion, our eternal Hope.  It is on Him we place and we trust our past, present, and our future.  Days will pass as calendar days march by, but with each passing day, we find how we are to become more like Him, more servant-like.

“You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

(The Psalms 16: 11 NASB)

Lord Jesus, alive, though You died.

The tomb is empty.

God is Holy, Purposeful, Infinite, Glorious and Lovely.

Grant to us the JOY of YOUR presence, the pleasure of living with You, forever.

Even though our birthdays pass, teach us the reality found in the passing of time.

For Jesus said to the woman of Samaria who had come to draw water in the heat of the day, coming at a time unnatural and uncomfortable, but coming for water, nonetheless.

“Jesus said to her,
“Woman, believe Me,
. . .
But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth;
for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ);
when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

Jesus said to her,
“I who speak to you am He.”

(The Gospel According to John 4: 21a & 23-26 NASB)
