Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Are we seeing everything with spiritual eyes of faith?

  • Just because we do not totally see something—does not make it impossible.
  • Just because we do not completely understand—does not mean it cannot be true.
  • Just because we cannot wrap our minds around something—does not mean it cannot happen.

“But Jesus said to him,”
[Jesus was speaking to the father who had a child plagued by an unclean spirit]
“ ‘If You can?’
All things are possible for the one who believes.”

(Mark 9: 23 NASB)

Today, I wonder:  What are some things we struggle to believe are possible?

Do we struggle to believe:

  1. That our wayward child will come back to God’s straight and narrow path.
  2. That our precarious health will be returned to us because of God’s mercy.
  3. That our sin we committed so long ago, the one we may still struggle with, the one we pick up and lay down again and again—has been removed from us as far as the east is from the west.
  4. That God loves us just as we are, right where we are, while we are still sinners.
  5. That God is calling us to a new place, a new career, a new direction for our life.
  6. That God has our future—our health, our finances, our place, our all.
  7. That God has healed us, whether we beat cancer or not.
  8. That God can do everything, YES, ALL THINGS!

C.S. Lewis was an atheist for much of his life—until he was not.  What changed?  Lewis writes:  “I believe in Christianity like I believe that the sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it, I see everything.”

I wonder:  Are we seeing everything with spiritual eyes of faith?

Take up your Bible and take a stroll with me.  Here we go.  Are you ready?

  • Mary went to the tomb early while it was still dark, and she saw with her own eyes who she thought was the gardener.  When Jesus Himself called her name, she recognized Him, clung to him, and then ran to tell the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” (John 20: 15-18 NASB)
  • The father with the sick boy, the one filled with an evil spirit, brought his son to Jesus.  Struggling to believe, the father just was not sure if this man Jesus could heal his son, so he said:  “It has [the evil spirit] often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to kill him.  But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us!” (Mark 9: 22 NASB)
  • Moses was commanded by God to lead the children of Israel to the Promise Land, and when they reached the Red Sea and cried out in anguish, God told Moses just exactly what to do.  “Then Moses reached out with his hand over the sea;  and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.  So the sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right and on their left.” (Exodus 14: 21-22 NASB)
  • Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den because he continued to pray and offer praise to God, but when dawn came, the king (who could not sleep or eat or find any joy in that long night) ran to the lions’ den.

“And when he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice.  The king began speaking and said to Daniel,
“Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you continually serve, been able to rescue you from the lions?”
“Then Daniel spoke to the king, “O king, live forever!
My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me since I was found innocent before Him;  and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”

(Daniel 6: 20-22 NASB)
  • The Old Testament contains miracles God performed, but do not believe me;  believe the Bible.
  • The four Gospels:  Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are pages and pages and pages—filled with the miracles of Jesus.  Do not believe my words;  believe the Word of God!
  • The entire infallible Word of God reveals the truth of GOD—HE IS A MIRACLE-MAKER!

The biblical definition of a miracle is like this:  something that involves direct and powerful action of God, one that transcends the earthly laws of nature and one that defies human expectation and behavior.

  • Miracles are extraordinary.
  • Miracles are supernatural acts of God.
  • Miracles reveal God.
  • Miracles reveal God’s character.
  • Miracles reveal God’s purposes.

Sometimes, miracles just cannot be explained with words.

All the time, miracles must be believed with spiritual eyes of faith.

So I wonder:  What miracle of God are we praying for today?

What miracle of God are we down on our knees, seeking Him about this morning?

What miracle of God do we need to just lay at Jesus’ feet?

May we trust in God’s mercy & in God’s grace.

He is a Promise-Keeper!

He is a Miracle-Maker!

““It has [the evil spirit that plagued the child] often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to kill him.  But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us!
But Jesus said to him,

[speaking to the father]
“ ‘If You can?’
All things are possible for the one who believes.”

(Mark 9: 22-23 NASB)

GOD WILL NEVER FAIL TO DO WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO!

  • LET US BELIEVE.
  • LET US NOT WALK IN UN-BELIEF.
  • LET US WAIT UPON GOD’S TIMING.
  • LET US GROW CLOSER IN OUR WALK WITH THE LORD AS WE WAIT.
  • LET US RAISE OUR HANDS & PRAISE GOD, EVEN IN THE MIDST OF THE WAITING.
  • LET US PLACE OUR FAITH & OUR TRUST IN THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN!
  • THEN, WHEN GOD MOVES, LET US RAISE OUR HANDS AGAIN & PRAISE THE ALMIGHTY POWER OF THE LIVING GOD!

“I shall remember the
deeds of the LORD;
I will certainly remember
Your wonders of old.
I will meditate on all Your work,
And on Your deeds with thanksgiving.

Your way, God, is holy;
What god is great like our God?
You are the God who works wonders;

[You are the God who performs miracles;]
You have made known Your
strength among the peoples.

By Your power You have
redeemed Your people,

The sons of Jacob and Joseph.”
Selah

(Psalm 77: 11-15 NASB)

There is a melody that reminds us through music just exactly what God promises us He will do.
