What Do We Want To—–“BE” When We Grow Up?
Have we ever considered the goal for our lives? I am sure we have contemplated that question a few times. Most probably, we have been asked (since we were small children) the infamous question——–“What do you want to be when you grow up?”——-As if by our sheer will, we would be able to decide (as we aged), What we Want to BE——–suddenly knowing by a certain age——-WHAT WE WANTED TO “BE.”
- Maybe today is the day of our birth, our special birthday.
- Maybe today, we are celebrating a moment in time.
- Maybe today, we can look back at where we have been, what we have experienced, and also look forward into our future, wondering if we are headed in the right direction, if we are going the correct way to become what we hope to “BE.”
God’s Holy Word gives us so much understanding when it comes to living, to aging and growing, to understanding the direction we should go.
When we consider How to “cash in, “How to “spend” our time, How to “become” something in the time we have been allotted, How to walk through the days of our single life,——–It is to the Bible we should turn.
The Apostle Paul had lived many years on this earth before he met God, and Paul was confused, at first. However, at the moment he met God, Paul saw the truth, and Paul knew the truth of God. When God revealed Himself to Paul on the roadway that day, Paul was just traveling through life, headed on a road toward the town Damascus. Suddenly Paul knew his life goal, what he wanted to “BE.”
“Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision; for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,” (2-3)
“although I myself might have confidence in the flesh….But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ” (4-7).
“More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my LORD, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ” (8). (Philippians 3: 2-3 & 4-7 & 8).
- Let us today, contemplate what we will do with our remaining days.
- Let us look up from our path, look to the left and to the right to see WHO is walking with us.
- Let us glance backward at what has already been accomplished.
- Let us gaze into the future at where we hope to head.
- Let us look WITHIN OUR HEART and see exactly where God is leading us.
We can live BETTER, with more CLARITY, & We can BECOME——–IF WE HAVE RECEIVED THE RIGHT RELATIONSHIP. YES, AS WE GO THROUGH LIFE, WALKING TOWARD OUR FINAL DESTINATION, WE CAN (like Paul) See the rubbish of this life & See the GAIN found in knowing CHRIST JESUS.
- What is the goal for our lives? &
- How can we know we are headed in the right direction? &
- Can we ever reach the place where we feel as if we have “arrived” at our life destination.
BIG QUESTIONS.
The Christian band We The Kingdom sings a beautiful melody “Child of Love” and the Christian artist David Dunn sings another wonderful melody “Spend a Life.” If we listen closely, then we can hear GOD’S TRUTH sung through the lyrics.
LIFE. BEING WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO “BE.”
We are given just one “GO AROUND” at living, at what we call “Life,” and for sure, we don’t want to mess up our one “GO AROUND” and miss the MOST IMPORTANT PERSON WE ARE TO “KNOW.”
- We may find ourselves taking overly cautious steps through life.
- We may step forward in pure boldness.
- We may stand totally still, fearful and not moving at all.
- We can also (sadly) step back, moving backward, going away from the forward motion of our lives.
- We can be filled with anxiety——-NOT KNOWING THE WHOLE PICTURE, of MESSING UP, or of BEING 100% WRONG.
- We can decide today, Right this Moment, IF WE TRUST GOD, IF WE SEE THE TRUTH FOUND IN HIS SON JESUS.
There are so many times when we are asked about our life goals, BUT When asked, the answer we need to be prepared to speak—-“I don’t know yet, but this I do know, God will reveal His will—–where and when and how I should go—-in HIS timing.”
- OUR TASK——Listen for God’s Direction.
- OUR TASK——Read HIS Word Every Day.
- OUR TASK——Communicate with our Father.
- OUR TASK——Obey God’s Will.
Pretty Simple Plan.
The Question—–What do you want to be when you grow up?
The Answer—-I want to be walking ever close to God, communicating with Him, growing in spiritual maturity, and preparing for the next step God will guide me, fully knowing Christ, that when my earthly life is complete, then I will have arrived at my destination as I step into heaven and see the King of Kings face-to-face.
Yes, that is what I want to BE—-when I grow up. What about you? What do you want to BE—–when you grow up?
- Have you met Jesus Christ, the Savior?
- Have you Accepted the truth found within His salvation?
- Have you Believed Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection?
- Have you Confessed your sins to receive God’s forgiveness?
What do you want to “BE” when you grow up?………….It’s so cool to know that we can “BE” the SAME THING WHEN WE GROW UP.
We can ALL “BE” God’s children.
We can ALL “BE” part of God’s family of believers,.
We can ALL “BE” growing up day-by-day in our spiritual maturity.
YES, THAT IS SO TOTALLY WHAT WE NEED TO “BE.”
