The Questions We Must Ask & The Because(s) That Make Perfect Sense!!!
“I love the LORD, because He hears my voice and my supplications.
Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
The cords of death encompassed me and the terrors of Sheol came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then I called upon the name of the LORD:
‘O LORD, I beseech You, save my life!'”
(Psalm 116: 1-4).
Sometimes I wonder why people choose to do what they do. Maybe you (too) to wonder (these things) about others. For example—-
Do we ever wonder why people stop walking the stairs at work and begin taking the elevator?
Do we ever wonder why people slide away from healthy eating and move more toward the consumption of food that hurts their bodies? OR
Do we ever wonder why people stop walking and choose instead to move less?
If we have ever planned a journey that required a ticket for an airplane, then the above questions make perfect sense. We have planned our journey, looked online to find the best airline and ticket cost, booked our flight, stopped our mail, and packed our bags. We are ready to go. We have all our essentials with us for our journey, knowing that this just might be the journey of a lifetime, so we are super-excited. Yes, we have told everyone we know where we are going and when we hope to leave and how long we get to stay. We are totally pumped. Yes!!!!! Leaving day cannot come soon enough.
So, then the day arrives, and we drive to the airport, choose our spot in long-term parking, take our bags out of our trunk, and then stand at the shuttle pickup, hoping the little shuttle bus arrives soon.
Why do we love the LORD?
Why do we place our hope in God?
Why do we seek to walk close to Jesus, striving to become more like Him every day?
Why do we listen to the sweet voice of God’s Holy Spirit as He speaks to us, showing us where to go and directing us how to go?
Why do we even need a Savior?
Because He hears us.
Because He knows us.
Because He listens to our prayers.
Because He overcame death so we could experience life through Him.
Because He desires that no one spend eternity utterly separated from Him.
Because He came to earth and took upon Himself human form so we could follow His example.
Because when we called upon Him, He was there, ready and waiting for us.
Because He heard our cry. &
Because He saved our soul.
Why do we Love God, our Heavenly Father?
Why do we love Jesus, the Son of Man and the Son of God?
Why do we love God’s Holy Spirit?
These questions are the MOST IMPORTANT ONES WE MUST ASK, the ones we SHOULD NOT OVERLOOK during our brevity of life. WHY?
The Because(s) Make Perfect Sense!!!
We are leaving soon.
The day for our journey was selected years ago (before we were born, in fact).
We need to not delay in making preparations to go.
We must be ready.
Yet, let’s say that maybe we are ready, and we are prepared, and (even though we may not know the exact day of departure), still we DO KNOW that we DO GET to leave, we DO GET to go, we DO KNOW that our day of departure could be soon, even sooner than we realize, and we even CAN KNOW the eternal destination of our life-journey.
SO THEN,……………………….
QUESTION #1—-Why do we make preparations for our journey and then not bother to invite anyone to go with us, but choose instead to go alone? AND
QUESTION #2—-Why do we ride the shuttle, toward the airport terminal and not take advantage of an opportunity to stretch our legs and walk before our flight, but choose instead to ride (to coast along) toward the airport entrance? AND
QUESTION #3—-Why do we not take the stairs once inside, but instead choose to take (the easy way) the escalator to the upper level? AND
QUESTION #4—-Why do we stop to purchase consumable junk food from the vending machines we pass, getting a quick candy bar and cola (a quick sugar high) instead of choosing to eat a better fare of sustaining food (instead of choosing to take in the daily bread of God’s Word) before we leave home? AND FINALLY,
QUESTION #5—-Why do we roll our luggage upon the moving sidewalk (the sedentary way), instead of choosing to walk along the center path (the straight and narrow way of Jesus) that leads us to our eternal destination?
Maybe we need to re-evaluate our choices today. Quite possibly, we may need to re-think our daily decisions. For Sure, we most definitely need to take an inventory of ourselves today. Without a doubt, we need to pause in the busyness of our life & REALLY ASK OURSELVES—— WHY DO WE LOVE THE LORD?
The psalmist did. Yes, he questioned himself, knowing that he was on the journey of his lifetime, that he had to be totally prepared to go because TODAY could just be his day of departure. Yes, the psalmist knew he needed to not be lazy during his waiting period, during his venture toward his leaving because others just might need to go too, and the psalmist knew he needed to remain Mentally, Physically, Emotionally, and Spiritually READY.
The psalmist knew. Quite assuredly, we do too.
Each one of us need to know the “becauses” to these most important questions. & Today is a perfect day to turn toward GOD in repentance, to see our own lackadaisical attitude toward GOD, to see how far apart we now walk, and to CHOOSE TO TURN TOWARD HIM.
Let’s read again what the psalmist wrote when he asked himself the most important questions and remembered how the “becauses” made such perfect sense.
“Then I called upon the name of the LORD:
“O LORD, I beseech You [I beg You], save my life!'” (PSALM 116: 4).
