What CAN God Really Do?
Okay now.
Early.
While darkness covers the outside, we arise from our slumber, preparing ourselves, knowing the daylight will come soon. Prayer, time to sit, stationary, before the day’s work begins. We may choose to study our Bible, and two cups of coffee, later, maybe then we’ll be prepared to step into the day. It’s with the arrival of this new day when we find ourselves asking—–The Question.
The question may march into our minds with a battalion of fears and a squadron of thoughts racing.
The Question: What can God really do?
The easy answer for everyone (both believers & unbelievers)——
God CAN DO Anything!!!
For those who believe, it’s a declaration with emotional tenacity.
“GOD CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS!!!”
For those who do not YET believe, it’s more of a statement-question, as they claim, “God can, I suppose, do whatever He wants if He is God after all.”
So, dependent upon where we allow our eternity after life to rest, and also dependent upon whether we believe God or not, then our answer to our question should be easily answered…….RIGHT?
WHAT CAN GOD DO?
That’s quite different from the previous question posed (with the word “really” removed).
WHAT CAN GOD “REALLY” DO?!!
OR
WHAT CAN GOD DO, like REALLY DO?
OR
REALLY, What CAN God do?
OR EVEN
Can GOD “REALLY” do THAT?
There are so many examples within life that answers the question. Nature displays what God can do when we witness the beauty of thunder-snow and the devastation of tornadoes and the parched earth caught in a drought. It’s so easy to see nature and see what God can do to our earth. We can also look into the lives of people and see God heal a person from terrifying cancer, soothe parents’ worry as their baby leaves the hospital after the scare, and a life restored once the abuse of drugs rage no longer within a person’s body. Truly, nature and people display “What God Can Do.” Yet, what about what we cannot open our eyes and see? Can God DO that too?
On the battlefield, can God give the soldier courage within his heart? Or can God bring a trembling heart of fear much needed peace? And what about despair from the ravages of death OR the brokenness found within a marriage that seems to be crumbling apart? Can God do anything there, in that situation?
Questions. So many facets of alleyways we could traverse, and if we live a life apart from gut-wrenching turmoil, we may never see the personal answers to those questions. Can God Do This? Save That? Or Can God Fix This? Restore That? Or Can God Repair This? Can God Heal That Person? Can God DO ALL This? Can God DO ALL That? REALLY??? NO FOOLIN’. NO JOKE? Are you lying? Can God really do all that? Maybe we might really be asking ourselves, “Would God Promise Us Something & Then Lie To Us?
Would God Do That? Would He Lie (to people)?
Now, if you pause reading right there, then you may not ever know the answer to the question, and maybe we are afraid to ask God. As declared earlier, the world is full of examples. The men and women of the 21st Century can render story after story, & even when we study the lives of the men and women of the 1st Century, we can see the answers. Even further back, way back into the time of BC, the time BEFORE Jesus Christ walked the earth, even then, we can see the stories repeated that demonstrate what God can really do. It is a FACT: God Never Lies. God Will Always Do What He Says He Will Do. It is the devil who is the father of lies.
IT IS GOD WHO IS THE FATHER OF TRUTH!!!
The prophet Jeremiah and the exiled children of Israel proclaim an answer to our question. Captivity. Hard Labor. Death. Loss. Despair. Loss of Personal Freedom. Alien Nations & Foreign Leadership. Chains. Beatings. Cries. Injuries. Turmoil. TOTAL DESPERATION!
All of these emotions, these daily realities were present when Jeremiah spoke to the people of “What God Could & Would Do.” In fact, many days had already transpired, but sometimes, the passage of time does not always give us the clarity in our hearts to see the answer to our question. In fact, as we age, we rely less upon what we CANNOT See and more upon what we CAN See, and we have knowledge from our years of study. Yes, without a doubt, youth can often see God easier than aged men & women.
Jeremiah spoke to all ages—youth, young adults, the middle-aged, the elderly as he proclaimed the TRUTH of WHAT CAN GOD DO, & Jeremiah gave his answer to the question through a prayer.
“After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, then I prayed to the LORD, saying, ‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You, who shows lovingkindness to thousands, but repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The LORD of hosts is His name; great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, giving to every one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds; who has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day both in Israel and among mankind; and You have made a name for Yourself, as at this day….'” (Jeremiah 32: 16-20).
Jeremiah continued to voice within his prayer what God can (in fact) really do? Truly, the great acts of what God had already proven that He could do provide evidence for the answer to our question. In fact, Jeremiah said it best when he said, “Nothing is too difficult for You,” (32:17). What we could miss today in the passage may be our part in realizing what God can do. Yes, that’s right. Our Part.
Prior to Jeremiah’s prayerful declaration came God’s directive of action that God gave the people. Earlier, God gave the details of how He (God) would bring them out of captivity and how He (God) would give them the victory to claim, but there was a task to do—first—-one of faith.
That’s right. A purchase of a piece of land, a purchase of property, ownership of a parcel of the land from their captors.
Faith Action. A Step. Doing what God leads us to do? Doing what God speaks to our heart (to do).
That’s Right.
God will DO Everything.
Nothing is Impossible.
Nothing is too difficult for God.
Our part is so small & SO LARGE.
We are called to—–Believe.
To Look to God.
To Trust Him Fully.
To Obey God.
We are to Have Faith that God WILL DO—-ALL—-YES ALL THAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO!!!
That’s Right.
DO WE BELIEVE HIS WORDS (of truth) SPOKEN TO US TODAY?
