Purpose in Everything!
Of course, there is a God!
Reality exists and we see it everywhere we look. Thus, everything that exists IS a thought of God. Take for instance, the existence the sun and moon. The Bible does not say that the LORD fashioned or made or did anything with His hands on the fourth day of creation; God simply SPOKE both the sun and moon into existence. Darkness was everywhere and emptiness existed, and
“Then God said,
(Genesis 1: 14-15 NASB)
“Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night,
and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;
and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”;
and it was so.”
Imagine what that looked like. One moment there was no sunlight, and suddenly, it existed. Then, later in that same day, as the earth revolved around the sun, it set and suddenly, the moonlight was seen. Amazing right! Consider how God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were the only Ones who saw the beginning existence of the day and night’s lights. Time, at that moment, was regulated by the sun and the moon. The Bible clearly explains this.
“He made the moon for the seasons;
(The Psalms 104: 19-24 NASB)
The sun knows the place of its setting.
You appoint darkness and it becomes night,
In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about.
The young lions roar after their prey
And seek their food from God.
When the sun rises they withdraw
And lie down in their dens.
Man goes forth to his work
And to his labor until evening.
O LORD, how many are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your possessions.”
There is Purpose in everything!
- The sun was created to shine and to set.
- The moon was created to separate the seasons.
- The darkness of the night was created to give cover so that the wild beasts could forage for food.
- The sunrise was created to give a signal to those same wild creatures, so they could find rest.
The sun and the moon move according to their schedule. Do not tell me that we are existing in meaningless.
Then, after seeing the purpose of the sun and the moon, it’s time to see our purpose. We see in that same Scripture how it’s our turn to go to work when the sun rises in the east. We work, and when that same sun begins to set in the western sky, we know it’s time to return home, to find rest. Amazing right!
We read how the Bible paints a picture of God’s creative labor. Recently, there was a stunning discovery in Southern China, in a place where archeologists have uncovered some wooden tools. Yes, wooden, when before this finding, everything we knew about prehistoric people revolved around stone. In uncovering this great find, these archeologists have studied how the early humans thrived by harvesting plants. They stored nuts and edible herbs. They dug in the softened soil that is found near the shoreline.
Ancient Native American people learned how the sun and moon regulated the way seeds germinated, grew, and became ready for harvest. In fact, there are archeologist findings showing how early people made two holes in their house walls, and when they could look through both holes and see the moon, then it was time to plant corn. Clearly, EVERYTHING that exists is a thought of HOLY GOD!
So, we ask: What was God’s purpose and plan for creating us—man?
To discover our purpose, we return to the Word of God.
“Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.”
(Genesis 2: 15 NASB)
The first man, Adam, was to “cultivate it and to keep it” meaning that he was to care for creation, taking care of it because as he did, then God would care for Adam by providing food from the earth for him to eat. All of this reminds us that God still cares for His creation and He intends for us to thrive and flourish. God has a purpose for grass & God has a purpose for the trees & God has a purpose for the tall mountains. God even has a purpose for mankind. Amazing Right!
- Consider God’s purpose for what He has given you.
- Consider what actions you and I should take to flourish today, just as God intended.
To unearth this Truth, to discover our purpose, we turn back to the Bible where this is clearly explained.
“Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,
(The Letter to the Hebrews 13: 20-21 NASB)
equip you in every good thing to do His will,
working in us that which is pleasing in His sight,
through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
“Amen” reveals deep truth, affirming trust in God’s will and in God’s promise.
History records how for 1000s of years, people have placed their trust in God, in Jesus’ work on the cross. There is purpose in God’s creation of the sun, moon, grass, trees, mountains, animals, man, and . . .
There’s Purpose in Everything!
So, of course, there is a God!
“Blessed be the LORD forever!
(The Psalms 89: 52 NASB)
Amen and Amen.”
