Thank You, God
“Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,”
(The Gospel According to Luke 18: 1 NAS)
Yesterday, I found myself bending down, picking up, raising up, walking over, tossing into, and repeating. Maybe you are reading that last sentence and wondering: WHAT?
Two days ago, a tornado touched down in our town, and it traveled into the path of my niece’s home. We were out of town at the time, enduring a freakish sandstorm that appeared at first to be a rainstorm coming. Then we knew the truth: The rain was really sand, and the tornado was really on the ground and creating a path of destruction.
As I drove toward town, I struggled to know the way to drive, for so many roads were closed. Finally, I reached the closest spot I could find to park my Subaru, and then began to walk. Truly, I was frightened, for electric lines sagged, touching down, and laying across yards. “This is probably not a good idea,” I thought as I stepped over line after line, but there seemed to be no other way to reach her home.
- Devastation.
- Destruction.
- A capital MESS.
- Debris littered the yard everywhere you could see.
Some piles existed where others had already begun the work of cleaning up the storm damage, but what I recall doing first was walking over to hug her tight, treasuring the way she felt as I wrapped her body in my arms, thankful she was safe, her husband, and all of her children.
“And He said to them,
(The Gospel According to Luke 11: 2-4 NAS)
[Jesus spoke these words to His disciples]
“When you pray,
say:
‘Father, hallowed be Your name,
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.’ “
What causes us to pause to pray?
- Do we thank God daily for sending His only Son to provide a way for us to be saved?
- Have we thanked God today for His invitation to step into heaven when life is done?
- Have we thanked Him over & over for inviting us to His marriage feast as described in The Revelation to John?
Should we stop everything we are doing and pray?
- Do we often bow our head to pray, thanking Him that we are afforded available access to pray often and daily?
- Do we pray about the opportunities He provides?
- Do we pray, grateful for all that He gives to meet our needs?
Do we find ourselves praying to God, thanking Him for EVERYTHING?
- We are to pray—without ceasing.
- We are to constantly talk with God.
- We are to pray, and even when our prayers seem unanswered.
- We are to keep praying and not ever stop.
Why?
Because we know God answers prayer, and His delay in answering may be His preparation to make All Things for His Glory and for our good. His delay may be His way of helping the world see His good. His delay may be the positive we can only see when we are on the other side of the situation.
- Live totally dependent upon God. PRAY.
- Live fully focused on the Lord. PRAY.
- Live thankful. PRAY.
- Live with Christ Jesus ruling our hearts and our lives. PRAY.
“Moreover, as for me,
(The 1st Book of Samuel 12: 23 NAS)
far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you;
but I will instruct you in the good and right way.”
