Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

What Does Obedience to God Require?

“For you have been called for this purpose,
since Christ suffered for you,
leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,”

(The First Letter of Peter 2: 21 NASB)

Today, we enter Holy Week, as we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, riding upon a donkey colt.  What a precious week of remembrance this week will prove to be.

  • He enters the city.
  • He comes willingly, knowing He has come to die.
  • He leads His disciples to prepare the Upper Room.
  • He serves them, washing their feet, breaking the bread, and providing the wine, symbolic for what He knows He has come to do.
  • He prays to His Father, asking for this cup to be removed, but yet, He willingly:  Not my will but thine—GOD’S.
  • He endures the scourging, the humiliation, the unbearable pain, opening not His mouth.
  • He stretches out His arms and feet, enduring the pain of the cross.

Yes, get this—HE DID ALL THIS FOR YOU AND FOR ME!

“WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;
and while being reviled, He did not revile in return;
while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;
and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross,

so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness;
for by His wounds you were healed.”

(The First Letter of Peter 2: 22-24 NASB)
  • He hears the lost one hanging on the other cross, offering His Salvation, God’s Paradise, even while there, dying for us upon Calvary’s cross.
  • For six hours he hangs there while God permeates the world in darkness & rips the veil of the temple into two pieces, opening the way to come directly to Him.
  • Jesus only then accepts the sour vinegar, wetting His lips just enough to proclaim—“It is finished.”

THEN HE DIES!

“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him.
Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
They were saying to one another,

“Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
Looking up,
they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large.
Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe;
and they were amazed.
And he said to them, “Do not be amazed;

you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified.
He has risen;
He is not here;
behold, here is the place where they laid Him.”

(The Gospel According to Mark 16: 1-6 NASB)

We can boldly go across the world, visiting the gravesites of all the religious leaders who have died and who have been buried.  As we do, we can be assured that their bones remain there inside their graves BECAUSE THEY HAVE DIED!

However, we cannot find the bones of our Savior Jesus Christ!

They do not exist—within any tomb—worldwide!

JESUS, THE MESSIAH & SAVIOR IS NOT DEAD!

JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE!

What Does Obedience to God Require?

On this first day of Holy Week, we are vividly reminded exactly how JESUS OBEYED GOD’S WILL FOR HIS LIFE!

  • What about you?
  • What about me?

Does our heavenly Father require the same obedience of us?

Does He require we die to our sinful nature each morning & walk in obedience to Him throughout the entire day?

Yes, get this—HE DOES REQUIRE EXACTLY THIS FROM ALL OF US WHO CLAIM THE SALVATION OF JESUS CHRIST!

“For you were continually straying like sheep,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.”

(The First Letter of Peter 2: 25 NASB)

Father,

Forgive us when we place our eyes upon the riches and kingdoms of this world, when we take our eyes from You and from Your ultimate sacrifice for us.

Forgive us our sins, our waywardness, our disobedience.

Father, You are our everything!

Our Salvation!

Our Only Hope!

Our present breath in our lungs and our eternal paradise shared in Your presence.

Father, lead us to walk in obedience to You.

Let us live within this world so that others may see Jesus Christ, Your Son, through us.

Father God,

We thank You in advance, right here as we pray, for the opportunity You will give us this day to boldly share Your Gospel message, telling another our testimony as we witness about Your Goodness, Your Mercy & Your Amazing Grace.

JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE FOR YOU AND FOR ME!

Nothing will compare to God’s Glory!

When we leave behind the good this world has to offer, we will step into the BEST JESUS HAS TO OFFER!

“But go, tell His disciples and Peter,
‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee;
there you will see Him, just as He told you.’ “

[Then Jesus appeared alive to Mary Magdalene.]
[Then Jesus appeared alive to the two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus.]
[Then Jesus appeared alive to the eleven disciples who were in the Upper Room.]
“So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them,
He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
And they went out and preached everywhere,

while the Lord worked with them,
and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.
[And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions.
And after that,
Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.]”

 (The Gospel According to Mark 16: 7 & 19-20b NASB)
