What We Should Pursue Most
“I press on
(The Letter of Paul to the Philippians 3: 14 NASB)
toward the goal
for the prize of the upward call of God
in Christ Jesus.”
The apostle Paul does not write with unclarity. That’s correct. The Bible explains with clarity where our heart’s desires should be placed.
- Forget what occurred in the past when we were younger.
- Reach instead for what is ahead—eternity.
- Pursue that goal (eternity with God).
- Pursue that prize (promised by God Himself).
- Pursue that calling on my life (gifted to me, salvation through Christ Jesus).
The devil’s desire is that believers, the followers of God, would become so distracted by their present-day life: struggles, accomplishments, obligations, fun days, and family duties that we lose focus on what we should actually be focused upon & pursuing.
Think about that.
Think about your calendar for today, for the weekend, for the month, and maybe even for the full year. Those thoughts are exactly where Satan would like for believers to focus, and I don’t know about you, but doing anything the devil desires sickens my stomach.
- Putrid.
- Dung.
- Loss.
- Rubbish.
We talk a great deal about ‘walking with God through life’ and we should. Every single step we take must be centered on walking within God’s will. Nevertheless, if we are truly honest, we oftentimes ‘walk with God through life’ focused more on THIS LIFE than on where our focus really should be placed—OUR ETERNITY WITH GOD.
What We Should Pursue Most—
Speak Jesus today as you engage in conversation with others.
Speak eternity with God as you walk throughout your day today.
Speak truths, detailing the many ways the Holy Spirit has led you through.
Then once we are finally removed from THIS LIFE & forever dwelling in OUR ETERNITY WITH GOD, the ones who speak of our memory afterwards will recall the truth of what we Spoke, Did, and Accomplished through the Holy Spirit while we lived.
It is a truth—
- The surrounding world around us really desires to see God at work, whether they admit it aloud or not.
- The promises of God will come to pass!
- The world may speak of our legacy after we are gone; therefore, let us live out our legacy so that what they speak after we are dead will be encased within the works of the Lord.
What We Should Pursue Most—
- Live today in such a way that the watching world cannot separate you from Jesus.
- Live today in such a way that when they think about the words you spoke, they hear Jesus through you.
- Live today focused upon, pursuing most—YOUR ETERNITY WITH GOD.
- Then tomorrow (if God gifts you with another ‘today’), live out your tomorrow in the exact-same-way!
The statement: What We Should Pursue Most derives from our heart’s desires, from the question we allow ourselves to ask: What should we pursue today?
May we not lose sight of WHO & WHAT WE ARE TO PURSUE—MOST—THIS DAY!
Thank goodness the apostle Paul gives us encouragement. In closing, see with me the Word of God given to help us as we walk throughout this one solitary day the Lord has gifted us to live.
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet;
[Paul refers to eternity with Christ—the ‘it’—he has not yet gained.]
but one thing I do:
- forgetting what lies behind
and
2. reaching forward to what lies ahead.”
(The Letter of Paul to the Philippians 3: 13 NASB)
