A walk through life toward eternity

What Are We Waiting For?

“Who is like You among the gods,
O Lord?
Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?”

(Exodus 15: 11 NASB)

This particular verse is part of a song that Moses sung with his sister Miriam, the one who so enjoyed picking up her tambourine and dancing as she sang praises to the LORD.  In this song, they were remembering how HE led the children of Israel out of captivity and through the midst of the Red Sea & how HE saved them from the thundering Egyptian soldiers of Pharoah’s army.  I am sure (since Moses & Miriam had been present when this amazing feat occurred) they could recall in their minds what the scene looked like when the Israelites stepped into the water and experienced the parting of the sea.  Surely, they trembled as they walked across the dusty, dry seabed.

Then, once across, and only when in faith, Moses lifted the staff high above his head, the LORD caused the water to come crashing back together on top of Pharoah’s chariots and his favored warriors. I truly believe the children of God quaked in their sandals even more.  When we consider the might of our Father God, how he moved the sea with His breath & how He sank that mighty army—we too can only exclaim through music, song, & dancing—

“Who is like You among the gods,
O Lord?
Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?”

(Exodus 15: 11 NASB)

Without a doubt, we live in a noisy world.  We walk every day through a grumbling, arguing, blaming, and perverse society.  Yes, we do.

Nevertheless, we are called, commanded in fact, to walk ‘differently.’  That’s right.  We are.

We are to walk through the days of life God gives us to live, to walk as set apart, odd-looking to those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior, and we are to walk on-mission, stepping forward, eagerly, to do the bidding of our LORD.

That’s right.  We Are!

You see, as Christians, we are held at a higher standard—God’s Holy Standard.

That does not mean God loves us more or that God will provide for us more; however, this does mean that God expects more from us because we belong to Him.  We are His!

The Bible is clear (all the time), and when God’s Word reminds us that God expects more from whom much is given, then we (the children of God) should always remember and obediently do Exactly Whatever God Leads Us To Do.

To help us better understand Holy God who sent His only begotten Son to make The Way so that through Him we might be saved, step outside today, close your eyes, and feel the presence of God’s mighty wind blowing against your skin, then ponder the words recorded by the prophet Jeremiah in the Word of God

“It is He who made the earth by His power,

Who established the world by His wisdom;

And by

His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.

When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,

And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;

He makes lightning for the rain,

And brings out the wind from His storehouses.

. . .

The portion of Jacob is not like these;

For the Maker of all is He,

And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance;

The LORD of hosts is His name.”

(The Book of Jeremiah 10: 12-13 & 16 NASB)

Children of God, we are to desire an outward life that reflects an inward transformation.  Yes, we are.

Jesus helps us continually see that part of us no one else sees (the inward part, the heart). It is MORE IMPORTANT than the part that everyone sees (the outward part, the person’s life) because what no one sees is Who we REALLY ARE, just as JESUS sees us!

Go ahead, re-read that last statement again in order to allow the truth to sink in deep.

  • Thus, let me look in the mirror to see just Jesus & me.
  • Let me ask myself:  ‘How do my insides look when it’s just Jesus & me?’
  • Then, let me look out through the window to see just Jesus & me.
  • Therefore, let us look throughout our surroundings to see what Jesus will have us do.

For there is a suffering world surrounding us in every direction.

  • Everyone needs Jesus!
  • Everyone needs to personally experience the Love of God!
  • Everyone needs the power experienced through the washing and cleansing of God’s Holy Spirit!

Truly, every single day we arise, there is so much we can do within this world for the cause of Christ, but before we can “go & do,” we must first inwardly look at that part of us no one sees but God, yes, the part only Jesus sees—our heart.

Let the revival come, Father, and let it first begin in me.

Maybe this is a great place to pause and listen to the melody “Daughter of the King” by Jamie Grace, one that reminds us through lyrics exactly Whose We are!

Then, as Jesus leads, let us faithfully go and do, reminding ourselves—What Are We Waiting For?

“Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is His flesh,

and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

  1. let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
  2. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
  3. and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
  4. not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another;

and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 10: 19-25)

Jesus will come again one day soon!

It is a Promise of God & a Fact.

The day Jesus will come again is closer today than yesterday!

It is a Truth.

Jesus expects us (those who have been washed by the shed blood of Jesus) to act with obedience!

Assuredly, this is 100% Truth.

Therefore, we are expected to daily—

  • “draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,”
  • “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,”
  • “consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,”
  • “not forsaking our own assembling together,” as we are continually
  • “encouraging one another;” for one significant reason—
  • “you see the day [is] drawing near.”

So, I ask each of us (you & me) Christian brethren, What Are We Waiting For?
