Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

What We Seek Identifies WHOSE We Are!

“One thing I have asked from the
LORD, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the
LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD
And to meditate in His temple.”

(Psalm 27: 4 NASB)

Have we ever paused to consider those things that we want MOST?

MOST!

  • The last-born son of Jesse did.
  • The bear slayer, shepherd boy did.
  • The courageous young boy giant-slayer who had been sent on an errand by his father Jesse did.
  • The child-anointed King David did.
  • The adult King of Israel who lusted after another man’s wife did.
  • The adulterous, sinful King David did.
  • The sin-confessing child of God, David did.

Think for a moment & ponder what this one person—David, a man who was identified as “a man after God’s own heart”—wanted.

Today, I am most thankful for God’s Word & how our Lord reveals how His mercy & grace covers all sin!

David wrote:  “One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: . . .”

Q1—What are we seeking?

A1—It has often been said where we place our most precious valuables (time, money, mind) reveals that which we seek—MOST!

David wrote:  “That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, . . .”

Q2—Where do we desire to be?

A2—It has often been said that where we place most of our energy (physical, mental, & spiritual) reveals where we—MOST WANT TO BE!

David wrote:  “To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.”

Q3—What do we think of MOST during each day?

A3—It has often been said that where we find our thoughts is the essence of who we MOST are as a person!

  • David desired to be in meditation within God’s temple.  Once we belong to God, once we give our hearts to God, then God places HIMSELF within us—His presence dwells within us through His Holy Spirit.  As a child of God, we are the temple of God, & that means we have direct access to pray to God, just as the ancient priests did during the Day of Atonement.  Amazingly, we have access to God 365 days of every year!  This is God’s pledge, His seal to us who believe.
  • David desired to see the beauty of God.  Once we really SEE WHO GOD IS, we cannot help but desire more of HIM.  We wish to remain near HIM & We strive to walk within HIS WILL.  Astoundingly, God reveals Himself to us through His Holy Word how we have access 365 days of every year!  God will speak to us every time we pause to read!
  • David desired to dwell within God’s house all the remaining days of his life.  Now, that did not mean David would lose his sinful nature because, unfortunately, the sin-nature remains in our humanness until the day we die.  Nevertheless, like David, we seek to dwell in close proximately to our Lord, as we walk within His Will.  As we are obedient to do God’s will, then God promises that HE HIMSELF will show us the way we are to walk.

WHAT DO WE DESIRE—MOST?

TRULY—WHAT WE SEEK REVEALS THE TRUENESS OF WHO WE ARE!

& MOST-ASSUREDLY—WHO WE SEEK IDENTIFIES ‘WHOSE’ WE REALLY ARE!

Days 1-2-3-4-5-6 of Creation—Consider for a moment the creation of the world.  When God created the universe and everything within it, He spoke it all into existence.  Day 6—Then God paused.  Up to that moment, nothing was created in His likeness.  Then at that moment, God displayed His immense love for us—mankind.  Pause to read with me a passage that leaped off the page of my Bible this morning.

“Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;
and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’

God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.”

(Genesis 1: 26-27 NASB)

God spoke to God!

God spoke to His Holy Spirit!

God spoke to His Only Begotten Son!

God Himself spoke to God Himself!

The spotlight of God’s time, during the days when He created the universe is on us.  WOW!

God paused during the creation of the world to think about you and me.  WOW!

Let that sink in for a while (well like for the rest of our lifetime).

God loved us even before we gave our hearts to Him!

Maybe that line needs to be typed again & again & . . .

Maybe this truth needs to be shouted from the mountaintops for all the world to hear.

God loved us even before we gave our hearts to Him!

Mankind has value, not because we give our hearts to God, but because we have been created by God in His image!

Truthfully, it is a fact that every child of God knows someone who needs to hear this statement, & if we are totally honest, the child of God knows MANY SOMEONES who need to hear about GOD’S AMAZING LOVE!

There are so many people that are close to the truth yet remain so far away from GOD’S AMAZING GRACE!

  • Let us cling to Jesus Christ, even when we fall down in our sinfulness.
  • Let us cling to our Savior, recalling exactly what He endured to save our lives.
  • Let us cling to our Redeemer, straining toward Him as we experience more of God’s mercy & grace.
  • Let us cling to our FATHER, JEHOVAH GOD!
  • Let us cling, & at the same time, let us listen to the chants of the saints who have already gone to heaven.  Yes!  Listen to them cheer us on as we fall down in our race, saying, “Come on child of God.  You can do it; we know you can strain for the ‘great prize’—eternity shared with our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!
  • Let us SEEK GOD WHOSE IDENTITY WE ARE!

“Home” by Chris Tomlin speaks through melody—reminding Christians where we are going someday soon!

“This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
but if we
walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

(1stJohn 1: 5-7 NASB)
