A walk through life toward eternity

Babies Teach Us Such Truth!

My niece is soon to give birth a new baby boy—a little bundle who already has a name—Baby Jay.   As the arrival day comes closer, we find ourselves anticipating his arrival day, and when the time comes, Baby Jay will burst forth into this world, reminding the world of the way God creates miracles.
As we excitedly await Baby Jay’s birthday, we pause to ponder this fact—-We can learn so much from babies.
Now, true, babies do learn so much from us—–the grown-ups of the world——but we (the big people) can learn so much, indeed, from them (the small gifts given to us from God).

1.  We learn how NOT to be SELFISH.
2.  We learn to be CONTENT & CALM.
3.  We learn to be SATISFIED within the moment.
4. We learn how to GROW.
5.  We learn how to PRAISE GOD.

So, let us consider these five teachings we find within the small bundles that come into this world, within these babies who are not self-sufficient but who are dependent solely upon the world living among them.  Babies cannot get along without us, for sure; and yet, as we care for their basic needs, we soon realize that we cannot get along without them either.
Babies TRULY instruct us to find the great truths of life, of God, and of faith.
1.  BE NOT SELFISH—-A baby born into this world is a small bundle, a human being with all the right workings so that their small bodies live, move, and exist….just as our larger bodies do….but on a smaller scale.
Babies have a mouth, and hands, and a stomach necessary for the intake of nourishment; and yet, babies cannot consume nearly as much nourishment as we can hold within our bodies.
Therefore, they must eat more often, every few hours, not SELFISHLY taking in all the milk for the day into their tummies at one feeding, scared that they will not be fed again during the remaining hours of the day.
A newborn may eat as often as every two hours, as the parent holds a tiny bottle to their lips.   Babies cannot run to the fridge and grab several bottles to hoard in the cribs; no, they must take the nourishment as it is provided, secure that when needed, their hungry tiny body will be fed again and again and again throughout every day.

2.  BE CONTENT & CALM—-We may eat too much, full to a feeling of discomfort, and (quite true) so do babies, but here’s the difference—–We eat too much and are miserable, but babies drink too much milk and then when overfilled, spew the extra (the too much) from their small tummies.  Oh, if we only could act as a baby at times.  Our bodies would be so much happier after we arise from a big meal.
Babies know how to get rid of that which causes them discomfort.  They are not concerned about how it will look to the world watching or about where their next bottle comes from BECAUSE they know the next bottle will be provided in the proper time when needed.   Babies Eat to fullness, Spew out the too much, and Sleep in total CONTENTMENT & CALM, as they Allow their little bodies to Empty   &   Prepare itself to eat again, over and over—every hour or so.

3.  BE SATISFIED—-Consider how a baby needs the basics for survival—-Love, Food, Dwelling, Care,  &   Companionship.   A baby born into this world may survive, but if a baby is not held, not shown the touch of love, then the baby will not thrive as well as a baby who does receive love.  While it is true, a baby may survive upon less feedings; YET, a baby will thrive when the bottles come at the timely, regular feedings. A baby knows how to sleep, SATISFIED and SECURE in the fact, that they will be fed.      A baby may survive, living out in the elements of the cold and heat found in this world, but a baby will sleep MORE securely SATISFIED when his tiny body finds rest within a warm, dry dwelling.    Furthermore, a baby may survive without  a parent or a sibling, but in order to grow and mature and thrive, a baby desperately needs someone to care for his needs and to stay close beside him from the moment of his birth.
4.  BE GROWING—-A baby must grow longer and heavier than when he arrives into this world.  While it is true that we may say we wish to be smaller, lighter, but do we REALLY wish to remain 19 inches in length and 5 pounds and 14 ounces???   Nope, that height and weight is just NOT ACCEPTABLE for us, the “grown-ups of the world”!    Babies must GROW…..Just as we must be spiritually born again and GROW up spiritually.   We cannot be content or satisfied with our “baby” size, with our “baby” Christian status.    We must feast on the nutritious Word and diligently study God’s Word, and we must pray without ceasing, talking with our Father, and sharing time with others (other believers) to really GROW.
5.  BE PRAISING GOD—-Babies know how to make us (the bigger people of the world) smile in happiness because when we hold tiny babies in our arms, rock them to sleep, feed them, play with them, and even snuggle up with them—-Joy Fills us, and we are unable to do anything BUT PRAISE GOD for this small gift, this baby HE has provided.   Babies truly help us thank God because babies remind us how God reveals His majesty and power as we hold and admire the perfections found within a baby’s tiny fingers and toes.  God truly does amazing work!!!!!
So, there we have it—-a short list of five important truths we learn from babies, and really, this short list reveals nothing new, but reminds us of these truths—–God’s amazing creation is so important & God’s amazing second birth, God’s salvation, is so important.

And so, we await the birth date, the arrival of Baby Jay, and as we do, let us meditate upon God’s Word, let us bow down upon our knees to thank God, let us ask him for an easy delivery, let us ask God to lead Baby Jay to the amazing salvation God offers, and finally, let us lift our hands high to praise God for the mighty work HE does within every tiny life.
God’s Word speaks such clarity……every time we open the Bible.

“Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,
Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, IF you have tasted the kindness of the LORD”  (1 Peter  2: 1-3).

IF is such a huge word.  We can put aside all the evils and sinfulness and separation that arrives with us when we were tiny newborn babies——–IF we know the salvation found only in and through the second birth, the salvation provided by Almighty God.
May we today see and accept God as a newborn baby.    &
May we long for Jesus, the pure Word of God.
