The Purpose of God
“And we know . . .”
These words could be the beginning of so many writings: Last Wills and Testaments, Marriage Ceremonies, daily conversations, and many other correspondences, but these words usher in very precious words—
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good . . .”
The world would like for the statement to stop right there, resting on choice words, focusing on how God causes all good things, but there is a catch, a stipulation that must be acknowledged, accepted, and received—the love of God accepted in one’s heart through Jesus.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, . . .”
What scares us, and what keeps us from trusting in the love of God, in his provision and protection? On any given day, there are many frightening situations, outcomes, and instances that might cause us fear, but repeatedly, we are told in God’s Word to not fear. An unbeliever might ask, “How can we not fear frightening situations or harrowing outcomes or even frightful instances?” The beauty is found in the Lord’s response.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 8: 28 NASB)
- All living people are called.
- All living individuals are born with an innate desire to know God.
- Everyone has a choice to accept OR to reject God’s calling.
For those who REJECT God’s love and His call to salvation, there is much to fear, to bring anxious thoughts about, and to struggle with in this world and the eternity to come. That should scare a person, cause them fear, and make them tremble–to die without Jesus.
However, praise God, for those who ACCEPT God’s call to salvation, to accept what Jesus has done on the cross and in the grave, and to accept God’s love—then there is nothing to fear. All of our anxiety can be placed at Jesus’ feet. All of our fear can be brought to Jesus in prayer. & All of our struggles within this world are realized for what they really are: momentary, for this world is not our home. Some day we who received God’s free gift of salvation will GO HOME, and since the beginning of time, that was ”His purpose.”
