A walk through life toward eternity

Could It Be:  Our Jobs—Our Mission Field

Few people suddenly switch jobs once they become a follower of Jesus, and the question remains:  Does God expect His children to?

A fisherman.

A preacher.

A tentmaker.

A chiropractor.

A doctor.

A teacher.

A counselor.

A railroader.

A stay-at-home mom.

A principal.

A bus driver.

A grocer.

A farmer.

A carpenter.

A banker.

A sales associate.

A waitress or waiter.

A . . .the list of possible careers is endless, places, mission fields “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9: 37b NASB)

  • Could it be that exactly where we work is the mission field God wants us to work:  Our Mission Field?
  • Could it also be true that those who we work alongside are the very ones to whom God has sent us to witness?
  • Could it be that the job where we work is “the where” & “the how” we are to work as unto our LORD?
  • Finally, could it be that God has placed us exactly in the spot with the skills and the talents—for a much larger task than just performing “our job”?

We can bring honor and glory unto God in whatever place and profession we are employed.

We can worship God through our lives.

Consider Jesus!  Consider God!  Consider the Holy Spirit!

They can see INTO a person’s heart.  If we say Jesus is the Lord of our lives, then we will follow Him.  There should never be an “if, and, or but” about following where Jesus leads.

Could it Be:  Our Jobs—Our Mission Field is exactly where God expects us to witness and to lead others to see HIM? !!!

See how Jesus Himself sent out His followers to help prepare the way for the harvest.

“Now after this [after the Lord spoke about discipleship] the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.
And He was saying to them,

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.
Go; behold I am sending you out like lambs in the midst of wolves.”

(Luke 10: 1-3 NASB)

Could it Be:  Our Mission Field IS found within Our Jobs & IS located exactly where God expects us to witness and to lead others to see HIM?  Followers of Christ recognize the changing seasons, the passage of time, the understanding of “why” God has placed us here, where we are, exactly for His Purpose.  We live between heaven and earth—as part of this earthly world where we are in the world as citizens of earth & as part of the kingdom of God, as citizens of heaven but not of the world.

God has called us:  to be Holy, set apart, distinguished from the world, radically different. Let us not strive to blend it but to courageously Stick Out for Our Lord.

We have received from God a Sure HOPE, an Eternal ASSURANCE, a HOLINESS, a COMPLETENESS in God, & a PROMISE that one day soon, we will go HOME to HEAVEN because of our belief in Jesus!

Therefore, notice how Jesus addressed His followers a third time to help them observe God’s harvest.

“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest’?
Behold, I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields, that they are white for harvest.
Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together.
For in this case the saying is true:  ‘One sows and another reaps.’
I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have come into their labor.”

(John 4: 35-38 NASB)
  • We can enjoy the fruit of other believers’ labor.
  • We can share Jesus & then watch as another individual experiences the amazing grace of God!

Discipleship is not an exclusive “Sunday Only” life-walk.  It is a worship of God on Sunday—Monday—Tuesday—Wednesday—Thursday—Friday—Saturday—All the days of the week, including our “work” days and our “off-work” days.  We are to prepare ourselves every morning when we arise to:  Worship Our Lord In Every Way.

Our Mission Field is found—exactly where God places us, surrounded by those whom God has entrusted to our carewitnessing and leading others to see HIM—Our JESUS!

Thus, may we not walk in fearfulness or in intimidation or in trepidation BUT walk in Courage & Confidence & Assurance, because—

“You are from God, little children, [this means ALL Christians]
and have overcome them; [those who do not yet believe in Jesus]
because greater is He who is in you [in each of Us:  God’s Children]
than he [the evil one, Satan, the deceiver, the devil] who is in the world.”

(1 John 4: 4 NASB)
