Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Which Should We Seek:  Good—OR—Evil?

This is a fair question and one easily answered.  We definitely seek “good” and not anything evil, but ten minutes spent in front of the television reveals what we really seek as a society.  Television shows are created based upon the realities seen within the news media.  We find ourselves watching, desensitized to the evils found within the human race.  Go with me for a minute, into the world; that’s where we find the atrocities of the generations:

  • Murder of innocent people just because of their religion.
  • Genocide of children & elderly & unwanted all in the name of creating the perfect race.
  • Death to babies just because they are unwanted.
  • Neglect of our neighbors who God has given to us to love.
  • Intolerance to the needs of others because we have too much to do.
  • Indifference to the good we are called to do.
  • Lack of faithfulness to do God’s will.

In plain language—

  • We know what God hates.  &
  • We know what we are as humans—apart from the goodness of God.

So, with clarity—

  • We know what we become through the shed blood of Jesus.

Found in the book of Proverbs, the wisdom of Solomon is written to direct the feet of his son.  As we read, may we also allow our feet to be directed as we turn our whole selves toward God.

“There are six things that the LORD hates,

Seven that are an abomination to Him:

  1. Haughty eyes,
  2. A lying tongue,
  3. And hands that shed innocent blood,
  4. A heart that devises wicked plans,
  5. Feet that run rapidly to evil,
  6. A false witness who declares lies,
  7. And one who spreads strife among brothers.”
(Proverbs 6: 16-19 NASB)

Just because the mass population of the world seeks something the world deems “good” does not mean that the LORD God approves.  During the late 1930s & early 1940s, a chancellor was given the power he sought, and through his rise in authority, he sent innocent children, & what he deemed as useless individuals and weak persons into the gas chambers, but not before lying to their faces, telling them they were going to the showers.  So, believing the lie, these millions of individuals undressed and walked single-file into “the shower” only to learn too late that instead of receiving a cleansing, they were receiving death.  Today, we only need to visit a memorial of WWII to be reminded of the atrocities of Adolf Hitler.  We are able to imagine the faces, to see the small children, to wonder about the elderly—as we see the huge piles of their shoes, photographs, and sheared hair that now turns back to dust.

In like manner, we can read the newspaper, turn on the news, or just listen to the radio to hear of the “medically-induced” abortions that are currently occurring, even after the twentieth week of pregnancy!  With graphic details, we can learn of the procedure followed to rid a person’s body of the unwanted life growing deep inside a woman.

We see life taken through the hands of someone with hatred in his heart.  Murder.  Slander.  Evilness.

The world is filled with sinners (people filled with blood flowing throughout their veins) just like you and me.  Are we scratching our heads wondering what’s wrong with the world, or are we down on our knees praying for God to intervene?

God has given us His love letter—His Story.  We only need to read, to study, to believe, to accept, to memorize His Word.   As we do, we will ask ourselves two questions:

  1. Am I in the way of others coming to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord?
  2. Are my actions or lack of actions condoning the sin found in the world?

Together, let us see what God speaks within His Holy Word.

“Seek good and not evil, so that you may live;
And so may the LORD God of armies be with you,
Just as you have said!
Hate evil, love good,
And establish justice in the gate!
Perhaps the LORD God of armies
Will be gracious to the
remnant of Joseph.”

(Amos 5: 14-15 NASB)

Which Should We Seek:  Good—OR—Evil?

  • May we run to Jesus!
  • May we never forget:  God chose us—all of us!
  • May we not love evilness and deem it okay!
  • May we be angry at what our LORD God hates!
  • May we not stand silently as the world spins out of control!
  • May we always remember how it is God’s Truth—He Made Each of Us!
  • May we never forget—God has something INCREDIBLE planned for us!
  • May we remember we are to remain IN this world but not be OF this world!
  • May we make space—for God to save!

Yes, may we make space—for God to have His way in us—day-after-day-after-day!

Finally, may the children of God always remember that we must live in this world, but as we do, God’s Holy Spirit seals our soul—reminding us how we are GOD’S POSSESSION!

“Therefore, ridding yourselves of all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness,
in humility receive the word implanted,
which is able to save your souls.”

(James 1: 21 NASB)

Jesus Christ, Himself, speaks what the saved sinners, the children of God, should seek.  Let us see Jesus’ words, written in red, words written in pureness & with clarity, as we never forgetTHAT WHICH WE MUST SEEK:  GOD’S GOODNESS!

“If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.
If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.”

(John 15: 18-19 NASB)
  • If the world sees you and me as different, then Good!
  • If the world sees us (the children of God) as odd, unique, separate, and devoted to God, then Hallelujah!
  • If the world sees us (the Redeemed) and hates us as they hated Jesus Christ our Savior, then well done faithful servant of God!
  • If the world sees the Christian and loves us because we resemble them, well then, let us not cheer and not be happy!
  • If the world sees us and loves us because we love what they love, then let us immediately bow down on our knees and cry out for God to forgive us of our sin!

If the world hates you,

you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.”

“If you were of the world,

the world would love you as its own;”

“but because you are not of the world,

but I chose you out of the world,”

“because of this the world hates you.”

Therefore, we know what we must hate, what we must strive to do, and WHO we must be like as we walk throughout our remaining days. Together, let us see what God says to us within His Holy Word.

“Finally, brothers and sisters,

  • Whatever is true,
  • Whatever is honorable,
  • Whatever is right,
  • Whatever is pure,
  • Whatever is lovely,
  • Whatever is commendable,

If there is any excellence

and if anything worthy of praise,

think on these things.

As for the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me,

practice these things,

and the God of peace will be with you.”

(Philippians 4: 8-9 NASB)
