Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Do We Want to Know?

“And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.”

(John 14: 29 NASB)

Do we like to know upfront?

  • Tragedy is coming—Do we want to know HOW & which day?
  • Grief is coming—Do we want to know WHEN?
  • Danger is coming—Do we want to know WHERE?
  • Distress is coming—Do we want to know WHY?
  • Death is coming—Do we want to know in WHAT way?
  • Do We Intimately Know & Accept WHO Controls All?

My career began in the world of media and broadcasting, a fascinating world.  Last week, I read a farewell article within the same newspaper where I once worked, and the professor who was mentioned within the reporter’s article was the same professor I had the pleasure of learning under when I was a student.  In reading, I was reminded of the way I loved my former professor, a gentleman who so many students cherished.

News Reporting always came AFTER the event occurred or even AS the news was happening, but reporters can never report the news BEFORE the news became news.  Sure, reporters can predict what they think may happen, and they can write about someone or something that contains a humanistic element.  Nevertheless, we had a statement within the newsroom:  If it bleeds, it leads, meaning news is cutting, moment-by-moment reporting that is written AFTERWARDS.

Therefore, News Reporting required that we “practice” writing lead sentences (like 1,000+ times).  Day after day, over and over again, our professor gave us informative details of a breaking news story, and we were given the task of writing the lead sentence for a future news article, as if we had just been upon the scene.  Undoubtedly, we wrote, edited, and revised lead sentences, striving to perfect our craft.

“And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.”

(John 14: 29 NASB)

One sentence to dispel truth.

One sentence to reveal the necessary details.

One sentence to encompass the totality of the story.

One Sentence Containing ALL that is needed.

  • Who
  • What
  • When
  • Where
  • Why
  • How

“And now—WHERE

 I—WHO

have told you—WHAT

before it happens,—WHEN

so that when it happens,—WHY

you may believe.”—HOW

(John 14: 29 NASB)

Jehovah God came to earth in the form of a man because He knew we needed a Savior!

Almighty God, the creator of the whole world, did that for us!

Before He returned to heaven, the Son of God spoke of His death because He knew they were troubled.

Jesus assured His disciples that He would come again to them after His resurrection.

The Messiah promised His followers God’s abiding eternal presence—The Comforter, The Holy Spirit—would remain within them.

Upfront, Jesus prepares us.

Beforehand, God forewarns us.

Eternally, the Holy Spirit sustains us.

Do We Want to Know?

YES!

YES, WE most-assuredly DO (want to know)!

“Thank You, Jesus, for knowing that which we need and for providing what we desperately desire to receive.”

Lauren Daigle sings the melody most appropriate for today. Take time to pause and to listen to “Thank God I Do” and Be Blessed.

“Thank You, Lord, for helping us not remain troubled.”

“Thank You, Holy Spirit, for leading us along life’s path.”

“Thank You, Almighty God, for sending Your Only Son.”

“Do not let your heart be troubled;  believe in God, believe also in Me.”

(John 14:1 NASB)

There are many “religions” within the world, beliefs that cause the world of people to place their trust in so many earthly things; however, as a Believer in God, as a child of the KING, and as a Christian, we know there is no one who will ever compare to ALMIGHTY GOD—JEHOVAH JIRAH—EMMANUEL—the GREAT “I AM!”

“Who has measured the waters
in the hollow of
His hand,
And measured the heavens
with a span,
And calculated the dust of the
earth with a measure,
And weighed the mountains
in a balance
And the hills in a pair of scales?
Who has directed the
Spirit of the LORD,
Or as
His counselor has
informed
Him? . . .
“To whom then will you compare Me
That I would be his equal?”
says
the Holy One.
Raise your eyes on high
And see
Who has created these stars,
The One who brings out their
multitude by number,
He calls them all by name;
Because of the greatness of
His might
and the strength of
His power,
Not one of them is missing.”

(Isaiah 40: 12-13 & 25-26 NASB)

So, Do We Want to Know?

YES!

YES, most-assuredly!

YES, we do want to know—the LORD!

YES, we do want to accept, believe, and confess—the SAVIOR!
