Why Does GOD Want to be in Relationship With You?
Have you ever wondered why the Creator wants us to intimately know the Son of God?
Have you ever pondered why God Himself would come to earth in the person of Jesus to dwell among us?
Have we ever really wondered WHY ME, GOD?
WHY GOD, DO YOU WANT ME TO BE IN AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU?
- Trusting the LORD is a firmer foundation than relying on ourselves and what is possible through us!
- Faith is simply BELIEVING that GOD WILL DO exactly what HE SAID!
Do we sometimes doubt that all things are truly possible with God?
My husband has served his country for more than two decades, and during that time, he has been deployed to regions of the world far away from home. Whenever a deployment comes, it begins with “orders” sent directly to him. On one occasion, we were in the middle of a family vacation, traveling through a national park, minding our own business, enjoying time with our daughter and her best friend (who had both just graduated from high school).
- Now, I just do not believe in coincidence!
- Nor do I believe in happenstance!
- Then there’s chance encounters that I do not believe in either!
God’s Providential Timing—that’s what we must believe in as our compass because God has proven time and again how He alone controls His universe and all that occurs within it.
Not long after the apostle Peter had run to the tomb and found it empty, & on the same day Peter saw the linen wrappings placed there (just so) inside the tomb—and Peter “went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.” (Luke 24: 12b NASB)
- Peter had walked in relationship with Jesus.
- Peter had reached out and touched Jesus’ arm.
- Peter had drawn his sword and fought against the soldiers who came to arrest His Savior.
- Peter had denied he knew Jesus on the night of Jesus’ crucifixion.
- Peter saw the empty tomb, remembering the words of Jesus, “marveling at what had happened.”
“And behold, on that very day two of them [of the disciples of Jesus] were going to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia [about 7 miles or 11.3 kilometers] from Jerusalem.
(Luke 24: 13-17 NASB)
And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.
While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.
And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad.”
Oftentimes, I have found myself reading Jesus’ question and scratching my head, asking: How in the world could Jesus Himself walk along beside them on the road & these two men not recognize Him?
Then, if I am honest with my own conviction: There have been times Jesus Himself has walked along beside me on my life-journey & I have not recognized His presence.
In 2016, while we were driving higher and higher in elevation (inside the national park) my daughter’s best friend was becoming sicker with each mile. My husband said to me, “We better get down to lower elevation before she experiences altitude sickness,” & even though we had planned to hike within the national park, it was decided that we would drive southwest to the military base. As we journeyed, my husband received an email on his phone. Once we settled ourselves into the Navy Lodge, he said, “I need to go print something, and I’ll be right back.”
Now, I did not know about his email, so when he returned with military orders in his hand, to say I was sideswiped is putting my response mildly. The truth about a military commitment is that it commands action and does not ask first.
My husband was being deployed—period—it was happening!

That day as Jesus walked along with the two men as they traveled away from Jerusalem and journeyed toward Emmaus, they did not recognize their Savior’s presence there with them. If fact, whenever Jesus asked His question, they clearly thought: “How in the world could anyone have missed the news about Jesus’ arrest, crucifixion, death, and absence from the tomb?” God had not yet revealed the resurrection of Jesus to them, but He was about to do just that—right there on the road.
“And they approached the village where they were going, and He gave the impression [Jesus did] that He was going farther.
(Luke 24: 28-31 NASB)
And so they strongly urged Him saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. [Jesus stayed with them that night.]
And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them.
And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.”

“But now, this is what the LORD says,
(Isaiah 43: 1 NASB)
He who is your Creator, Jacob,
And he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name;
You are Mine!”
Why does GOD Want to be in Relationship with You & Me?
We walk along throughout our lives, going on vacations, encountering troubling news, dealing with sick children, and just trying to live life day-after-day.
Why does the Creator of the world want us to intimately know the Son of God?
We stop for a night’s respite, fully making our own plans, and we are suddenly reminded how we must rely upon our Father’s protection and guidance in all situations.
Why did God Himself come to earth in the person of Jesus to dwell among us?
We know Jesus as our Savior & God’s Holy Spirit dwells deep within us.
Have we ever really wondered WHY, GOD, do you want each one of us—His Creation?
We are called the children of God because GOD HIMSELF CALLED US BY NAME:
“You are Mine!”
