What Are We to Do?
“Not to us, LORD, not to us,
(Psalm 115:1 NASB)
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy,
because of Your truth.”
Have you ever listened to another speak about you, praising you, and felt immensely uncomfortable? Praise, even for a job well done, can be difficult to hear, to experience, and even to accept. We may even think, “I’m not deserving of all this.”
That statement was spoken aloud as I listened.
“I’m Not Deserving”
- Are any of us—deserving—of all the blessings of God?
The short answer—NO!
God grants us a certain number of days to live, and He granted us that number of days when He created us and placed us in our mother’s womb.
- Are we deserving of our days allotted?
NO!
God grants us breath in our lungs, in and out without really even being conscious of the magnificent way God fashioned us.
- Are we deserving of the next breath we breathe?
NO!
God grants us family: people to love who sit at our tables, a church family who surround us with their care, love, and encouragement, & friends who we love as sisters and brothers.
- Are we deserving of the family God grants to us?
NO!
Truly, God, we are most UN-DESERVING!
Will our lives be filled with works that will not outlive us? OR
Will our lives be filled with the work of the Holy Spirit, of Jesus living through you and me?
Will we say, “Yes, LORD” to every decision, every step God leads us to take? AND
Will we reveal to the world the great treasure found in a relationship with Jesus?
God’s plan from the beginning was to bring heaven to earth through the lives of His children—EVERY SINGLE DAY!
- God’s plan from the beginning was to provide salvation for ALL people!
- God’s plan from the beginning of our salvation was that we would live for Him!
Moment-by-Moment—We must know the heart of God.
Moment-by-Moment—We must ask: “What does God want?”
Moment-by-Moment—We must wonder, ‘Is God satisfied with me?’
To grow deeper in our faith-walk, we must allow God to open the eyes of our hearts to SEE HIM AS HE TRULY IS!
God grants us salvation, a way to know Him through the belief in His Son & through the confession of our sins & through the acceptance of the Savior’s defeat over death.
Are any of us—deserving—of this blessing from a most holy God?
Of course, the answer is a resolute—NO!
Yet here we are, living topsoil, the redeemed, the saints of the King of kings; therefore, we must daily ask: “LORD, What Are We to Do?”
The psalmist wrote a most worthy song of praise. May we take in the truth of the task we have been instructed to do. Read with me (again).
“Not to us, LORD, not to us,
(Psalm 115:1 NASB)
[It is never about us, LORD, but about YOU!]
But to Your name give glory,
[Father—Almighty God—
Emmanuel—Prince of Peace—
Savior—Redeemer—Son of God—JESUS!]
Because of Your mercy,
[We are so undeserving, so pitiful, so unworthy—of God’s mercy.]
because of Your truth.”
[The sacrifice of Jesus Christ upon the cross—He gave His life for every person who ever lived & who now lives & who will someday live—GOD IS FAITHFUL & TRUE!]
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to truly live in the fullness of the relationship given to us through the sacrifice of Jesus!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to truly lift our hearts & voices in praise to our Savior Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, and our Lord!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to live empowered over sin in the strength of our Father, Almighty God!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to stop living in our own strength and instead rely upon God’s Amazing Power over life and death!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to stop focusing upon our problems but to instead begin focusing upon the greatness of God and His attributes!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to speak Jesus to those who God places into our paths, to share our testimony, to tell the world how it is all because of Jesus alive within us that we are set free!
- It is time for believers, for Christians, to seriously focus our lives on living out the Great Commission Jesus gave to us to do!
What Are We to Do?
- It is time to begin living every moment, every day, every hour, and every breath—within God’s will because Jesus will come for us one day!
Are we ready?
Are we deserving of God’s Mercy & of His Amazing Grace?
- A resounding NO! can be heard throughout the heavens and the earth.
Nevertheless, What Are We to Do?
- We are to raise our hands in daily worship & to bow down in humble adoration to our Lord Jesus Christ!
- We are to continually exclaim:
“Thank You, LORD, for sending Jesus!
Thank You, Jesus, for going to the cross, for dying for each one of us, such pitiful sinners!”
Oh, yes—“THANK YOU, JESUS!”
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
(Ephesians 3: 20-21 NASB)
to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
