Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Working—Leaning Toward the One Who Promises the Ultimate Day of REST

Do we ever become tired—mentally, emotionally, physically, and maybe even spiritually.  Tired.  Maybe we remember a time when our bodies were just so tired from running that we flopped upon whatever seat was available, totally spent.  Then, quite possibly, there have been seasons of life when our bodies were so emotionally fatigued that we knew our physical bodies were moving, walking forward into our day, even while we felt the weight of our emotions.

  • Some carry concern for an upcoming procedure.
  • Some are fatigued with the therapy that comes when a cancer attacks the body.
  • Some strive to hurdle the way life seems to have drastically changed due to a health concern, altered so much that it becomes almost impossible to remember what our life looked life before the change.
  • Some struggle with the indecision of others.
  • Some feel the weight of barely making ends meet.
  • Some build and build and built only to find that one sweeping flood suddenly seems to take everything away that we thought was ours.

There is a common denominator in each of the above situations.

REST.

SWEET PEACE.

MOST WONDERFUL CALM.

A SABBATH REST.

JUBULIENT & EXORBIANT PRAISE.

THANKSGIVING.

HAND-RAISING, ALL-OUT WORSHIP.

IMMEDIATE & INTERNAL & PRAYERFUL & PERSONAL & ETERNAL—JOYFUL, BEAUTIFUL REST!

The apostle Paul understood fatigue and anguish and impeding death.  He knew how his journey would end in death.  We too know how our journey must end in death.  There is no escape (unless God decides we are to be like Elijah and lifts us as we journey today as we go through our day).  Nevertheless, for most, the life we live leads to a death we will each experience.  For those who believe Christ has risen from the dead, this thought brings sweet release & calm & inner, peaceful rest.

Therefore, may you read with me the words recorded in the Bible, words the Holy Spirit of God gave to Paul—

  • Who wrote to encourage those believers who were living in the city of Corinth,
  • Who faced fatigue from the day, and
  • Who knew the heaviness of the season of life they were given to walk.

“But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written:  “I BELIEVED, THEREFORE I SPOKE,” we also believe, therefore we also speak,

knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus, and will present us with you.

For all things are for your sakes, so that grace, having spread to more and more people, will cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.”

(2 Corinthians 4: 13-15 NASB)

So, friend, we must work while there is still day.

Yes, we must!

There will come a day when our work here on earth will be complete, when our work will be accomplished.

  • On that day, we who believe will finally arrive home.
  • On that day, we will see the fruit of our labor.
  • On that day, we will experience the wonder of Almighty God, &
  • On that beautiful day of our Eternal Rest, we will bow down in reverent praise and adoration, thanking God that HE chose to love each one of us—THAT MUCH!

Today, let us be busy, each day, working for the LORD.

Let us lean in—leaning toward the Only ONE who Promises us the Ultimate Day of REST.

For, it’s okay to work hard within this day God has given us.  We can toil with our hands, speak with our mouths, listen with our ears, go with our feet where God is leading us to go, touch others with the good that God has given us to do with our hands, and while we are working within this one day, IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP OUR EYES FIXEDFOCUSED UPON JESUSTHE ONE for whomALL IS DUE!

Therefore, at the end of today, it will be okay to rest.  Yes, so wonderful to be so tired that we desperately WANT to rest, for we know God has taught us how to rest through His example.  We are shown how God rested once He accomplished His creation.

In talking with another, we wondered as we discussed the length of time that Sabbath Rest might be—a full day of rest.

A Sabbath’s rest.

Truly, we could not fathom it!

In the smallness of our thinking, we tend to look at a day as a normal, regular day; nevertheless, we know “that with the Lord, one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3: 8b-9 NASB)

One Thousand Years—a millennium, a kiloyear.

1 Day = One Thousand Years.

One Thousand Years = 1 Day.

Eternity is unfathomable & unimaginable & inexpressible!

While we know how the space and the time of our eternity in heaven CANNOT EVER be the same as the space and the time that we know here on earth.  We are aware:  God’s calendar is not our calendar!  God’s purpose for our today supersedes.  GOD’S PLANS ARE SO MUCH GREATER than our plans for this calendar day.  So, we thank You God for allowing us work to do with our bodies.  Yes, most humbly we lean into You, Father, leaning toward the Only One who could EVER PROMISE the gift of our ultimate day of rest.

That will be a beautiful day when we will step into God’s presence and see God as He is, as He has always been!

“Therefore we do not lose heart, but our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day.

For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison.”

(2 Corinthians 4: 16-17 NASB)
