Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

A Love Letter Forevermore!

What can a love letter do?  What power do the words written hold?  How do the thoughts of the reader mingle with the thoughts of the writer?  How does the love of the author extend to the heart of the receiver?  Then, once the reader finishes the love letter, why does he find himself returning to re-read certain lines and significant sections again and again, going back to words written in deep devotion and love?

Today, I find myself within this thought:  What compels a person to write—a LOVE letter?

This morning I found myself re-reading a love letter sent to me on my fifty-fourth birthday, (two brief years ago), and as I re-read the words, I considered the place, the time, and the situation of when that letter was written.  A virus permeated our world, and mankind was forced to live separated, apart from those we love.  As I re-read the love letter mailed to me, I saw the image of the person within my mind.  The love I feel for the letter’s author has not changed but has only grown; the love runs so very deep.

The world that we live within today has most definitely changed.  Inside the letter I read through this morning, the author mentioned how the year of 2020 was one filled with fear and unrest and unanswered questions causing people to think deeply about the “little things” that are so important.

The little things.

The smallest parts of life.

The tiniest thoughts and actions that mean SO MUCH!

The love we know and share with those we deeply love only grows over time.  Just ask any parent who knows the gift of a child.

The Love of a Mother.

The Love of a Father.

You know, that is forever true when we consider God’s love for us.

There was a providential moment in history when God sent His Only Son Jesus. He lived among the world, but Jesus was not like the world He lived within.  Jesus, the Son of God was without sin, but He was crucified, (who had never committed any wrongdoing, any sin).  Nevertheless, there upon the cross—HE DIED for our sins—for the sins HE never committed!

The cross of Calvary reveals God’s LOVE letter to all humanity—to each one of us!

The Bible, the infallible Word of God, contains the words of God’s love letter written to us—to humanity.  One verse alone can reveal the depth of God’s LOVE!

Let us read this passage together.

“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”  And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” (John 19: 30 NASB 2020)

What compels a person to write—a LOVE letter?

  • What compels the Son of God to give HIS life for us as—a LOVE letter?
  • What compels the man of God to willingly die, to willingly be buried inside a tomb for us as—a LOVE letter?
  • What compels Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, to remain buried inside the tomb for three days, THREE DAYS to show the watching world, HIS DEATH for their sins as—a LOVE letter?
  • What compels the God of the universe to orchestrate this action, one that reveals HIS LOVE for us?
  • What compels Almighty God to raise Jesus Christ from the dead, allowing more than 500 witnesses to see the nail-scarred hands and feet where the spikes had been driven into JESUS’ flesh upon the cross as our heavenly Father wrote His LOVE letter to us?

The LORD will never take back His pardon of our sins.  That’s right!

Let us sit within that thought  &

Let us be encompassed all about with the LOVE of GOD!

Let us dwell within God’s love revealed through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus!

Let us recall the love of Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, as we remember what HE did for us!

We can easily know how all of this is forever true because God’s Love Letter tells us so.

We can easily know because it is found written upon the pages of His Holy Word.

“Bless the LORD, my soul,

And do not forget any of His benefits;

Who pardons all your guilt,

Who heals all your diseases;

Who redeems your life from the pit,

Who crowns you with favor and compassion;

Who satisfies your years with good things,

So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. . . .

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our wrongdoings from us.

Just as a father has compassion on his children,

So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.

For He Himself knows our form;

He is mindful that we are nothing but dust.”

(Psalm 103 2-5 & 10-14 NASB 2020)

What compels a person to write—a LOVE letter?

What compels the Son of God to write upon our hearts—His LOVE letter to us?

The lyrics of a simple melody titled “Enough” by Elias Dummer reminds us of the love JESUS displays over and again for us.  Please pause to listen today and be reminded.

“I am not what I make/I am who You have made me to be/

I am not what I’ve done/I am loved unconditionally/

I am not loved by the measure of love that I bring/

I am not who I know/I am known by the King of all Kings/

JESUS, You are Enough/

JESUS, You are Enough, for me/

With Nothing, I still have EVERYTHING/

JESUS, You are Enough, for me/ . . .

You are infinite love, and You prove it again and again/

JESUS, You are Enough/

JESUS, You are Enough, for me/

With Nothing, I still have EVERYTHING/

JESUS, You are Enough, for me/ . . .”

“Enough” by Elias Dummer

God’s Love letter to us—written with the shed blood of His Only Begotten Son Jesus!

God’s Love letter to us—unchanging!

God’s Love letter to us—A Love Letter Forevermore!

Every love letter evokes a response.

Every love letter allows the reader to recall the author.

Every love letter can be read over and over and over again, as a reminder of the love the author has for the one who the love letter has been sent.

So, today, may we recall, may we re-read, may we believe the Word of God, and may we respond.

“What shall we say then?  Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? [the apostle Paul means the grace of God for us]

Far from it!  How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.”

(Romans 6: 1-4 NASB 2020)
