Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Who Truly Is First?

Oftentimes, the small events in life have profound connections within our brains.  Take, for instance, a wonderful Thursday night shared with a great friend, a night of one-act dramas performed by an amazing cast of talented high schoolers. &

Take, for instance, a phone message sent by a truly wonderful person who walks through life with me, a text message with these words—–“Ooh!! Exciting!! Of course you can let me know. No pressure whatsoever. Darrell first, of course.  Well… right after Jesus.”

The night of one-act dramas last week included the famous skit “Who’s on First,” & the above text message came last night as we were discussing a coffee date, when I mentioned to her something my husband needed for me to do with him tonight.

Her words appeared on my phone screen, and in both instances, I was struck by the shear honesty in relation to our faith.
Who’s On First? &

Who’s On Second? &

Even Who’s On Third?

As believers, As Christians, let us not ever wonder WHO Must Be FIRST In Our Heart, Mind, Soul, and Body.

It Must be 100% Clear——–WHO Is Our #1 Focus.

The Truth is so clear in God’s Word.

“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day (16)
For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, (17)
while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal”
(2 Corinthians 4: 16-18).

Does the world see——-WHO IS OUR FIRST FOCUS? Can they tell by our actions? By our reactions? By our conversation topics? By our calendars? By our bank accounts? By our EVERYTHING?

Do we see——-WHO IS OUR FIRST FOCUS when our eyes open every morning?

Quite possibly, (IF we are honest) our first focus each morning may not be a WHO but a WHAT.

Maybe today, we need to see———WHAT REALLY IS OUR FIRST FOCUS (in our mind) when our eyes open every morning?

When we take a focused, honest look at our lives, we may be drawn down to our knees in repentance, but let us not become disheartened because on our knees is where we find God’s forgiveness, acceptance, and spiritual growth.

Temporal Circumstances. OR

Temporal Troubles. OR

Temporal Pleasantries.

SHOULD NOT EVER BECOME OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
NO………..NEVER!!!

If we have allowed a daily circumstance OR a never-ending trouble OR even a momentary pleasantry to steal our focus away from God, then today—–this one single Tuesday—–of Holy Week—–IS THE PERFECT DAY TO SEE WHO or WHAT REALLY LAYS CLAIM TO OUR FIRST PLACE WITHIN OUR HEART.

  • As the Apostle Paul reminds us in this Scripture passage, the things of this world are temporal.
  • And the Apostle Paul also reminds us, our body began decaying from the moment of our conception.
  • Further, the Apostle Paul also reminds us, the afflictions we face are so momentarily light in comparison to our eternity. &
  • And finally, the Apostle Paul reminds us, our inner being is being renewed day by day as we walk toward our final breath. (WE——-God’s children, Christians, Believers and Followers of Jesus).

Let us today—–on this most glorious Tuesday of Holy Week—–FOCUS UPON THE WEIGHTIER, ETERNAL GLORY OF GOD “who is far beyond all comparison” (17). &

Let us today—–on this most glorious Tuesday of Holy Week—–LOOK “not at the things which are seen, but the things which are not seen;…” (18).

  • Our circumstances are temporal.
  • Our troubles are temporal.
  • Our pleasantries are temporal.
    & Yet,……………..GOD IS NOT TEMPORAL!!!!
  • & Yet,……………..THE SALVATION OF PEOPLE IS NOT TEMPORAL!!!!
  • & Yet,……………..OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH IS NOT TEMPORAL!!!!
  • So, let us ask (ourselves)————–WHO TRULY IS FIRST?
