CLEAN Sheets Display GOD
Absolutely.
Yes, MOST ABSOLUTELY!
Stripping off the “old” sheets and replacing them with “fresh & clean” sheets is a blessed feeling when we retire to bed. Help us, if we must sleep without the comfort of sheets at all but must sleep on a mattress without any sheets or wrapped inside some type of blanket, unmoving. Help us if we must sleep without the feel of clean sheets upon our bed.
Sheets.
Yes, SHEETS, but not just any sheets.
CLEAN SHEETS, NEW SHEETS—put upon our place of slumber—DISPLAY GOD.
Let me tell a story today. Go with me. Close your eyes with me. See a dark street, one that may cause a coldness, a dampness to filter into our bones. Step into a home that sits upon that dark street. Walk with me into that home. Search for a light (with me) because the darkness makes it impossible to see.
Finally, our eyes adjust, and even though we have not found a light, still we can see, somewhat, but not clearly. We squint our eyes, trying to see through the slits of our eyes, and even though we cannot REALLY SEE, still we step, one small step followed by another step, gingerly making our way across what we think is the living room, but still we are not sure because the walls are dark, the floors are filled with debris, and the windows (or what windows exist) are dirty, untouched, impossible to see through, and offering little light into the dark room to show us the way.
But we know the truth—SHEETS, CLEAN SHEETS—upon our place of slumber may display God to this dark world.
QUESTION: Why did Jesus come to the world?
The Bible reveals the answer, but oftentimes, so many never read, much less study the Bible; henceforth, never see the truth, the answer to the question: Why did Jesus come?
Yesterday, snow fell, covering the earth outside my front window, stopping many from leaving the comfort & warmth & safety of their homes. However, still the world turned; still trains moved along the tracks; and still, tracks needed troubleshooting, repair, and the hands of skilled railroad men who knew how to repair the tracks so the world could turn, so the trains could move along the tracks, so life could go on, even among the white snow that fell.
The prophet Isaiah wrote to the afflicted Israelites, to those who knew what they needed to do but who woke up every morning unconcerned about the dirtiness, the filth, the uncleanness of their places of slumber, for dirty they fell into their beds, and dirty, they climbed from their places of rest. If sheets would have existed—Then—the sheets covering their beds would have been dirty. People. That is who God directed Isaiah to write to when he wrote the book of Isaiah. Today, it is people (yes, normal people like us) who Isaiah speaks to today when we turn to this book inside God’s Word, and it is God who speaks from the text—directly to our hearts. Do not do anything but read with me, God’s Holy Word, and see what God speaks to each one of us, collectively & individually.
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners;
To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God; . . .
For I, the LORD, love justice,
I hate robbery in the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.
Then their offspring will be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the offspring whom the LORD has blessed.
I will rejoice greatly in the LORD,
My soul will exult in my God;
For He has clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up,
So the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise
To spring up before all the nations.”
(Isaiah 61: 1-2 & 8-11)
CLEAN Sheets Display GOD!
Yes, Most Assuredly!
Today, we may arise from our night of sleep, we may stumble through the rooms, seeking the beginning of our morning, and we may not even give any consideration to our Sheets upon our Beds, but if we did, then we would agree that our beds have been used (soiled possibly) because of our bodies resting upon them last night as we slept.
Would we invite a favored guest into our home for the night, give them our bed as their place to rest—Allow them to rest their heads, their bodies, UPON OUR DIRTY SHEETS?!!!
NO, PROBABLY NOT!
We would take time to wash our sheets, to dry them to fullness, to stretch them across our beds, to tuck in the loose ends, to ready our beds so that our guests would have a clean place, a fresh place to lay their heads, to slumber.
WE FIND OUR REST IN JESUS!
WE ARE CLOTHED WITH THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS ONLY JESUS PROVIDES!
WE PLACE NEW, CLEAN CLOTHING UPON OUR BODIES BECAUSE THE CLOTHES, THE GARMENTS WE WORE YESTERDAY ARE SOILED, ARE SMELLY, ARE UNCLEAN—AND NOW WE DESIRE THE SCENT, THE CLEANSING, THE GARMENTS THAT BRING WITH THEM THE NEWNESS OF TODAY, OF THIS NEW DAY THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY HAS GIFTED US TO SEE!
Let us lay aside our old habits.
Let us take off our filth.
Let us cast it far away, into a corner, into the garbage for the landfill, and let us never desire the filthiness we once claimed as our daily wear.
Let us no longer desire that which we should NOT desire— &
Let us no longer desire the filth we once knew—BEFORE THE NEW & THE CLEANSING OF JESUS CHRIST!
Let us forevermore rest within the clean.
Let us forevermore desire the clean.
Let us take off the old and place on the NEW!
Let us forevermore want that which only JESUS provides.
Let US!
YES, CLEAN Sheets Display GOD!
YES, CLOTHED WITHIN THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, THE ROBE, ONLY JESUS PROVIDES!
YES, LET US BE CLEAN, BE NEW, WALKING AS HIS CHILDREN OUGHT TO WALK!
We know from God’s Word, the way a Christian must walk, how a Christian must live. It is NOT a mystery. God, Himself, reveals the way to us through His teachings found within His Word.
“But you did not learn Christ in this way [walking in the futility of the mind, darkened in understanding, excluded from the life of God because of ignorance],
If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,
that in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,
and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”
(Ephesians 4: 20-24)
