A Pear Tree & What We Can See About Our Walk of Faith
There is a pear tree in our back yard, one loaded down with branches full of pears. This pear tree is planted near the end of the garden, so some of the pears fall onto the garden soil where they could lay until decomposition returning nutrients back into the soil; however, some pears fall into the grassy yard where my husband mows. Therein lies the problem.
When the day of mowing comes, we have two choices—toss the pears over the fence or mow over top of the pears.
Two choices to make.
Two choices that both bring significant outcomes.
Choice 1—Toss the pears over the fence into the pasture field. If we take action and actually go over to the pear tree where my husband has left a rake leaning against the pear tree, then our work of removing the pears does not take long.
The tool is already present.
The two of us work together, faster, than if we work alone.
The four cattle who graze in the pasture field enjoy a special treat of “pears for their dessert,” and they LOVE pears. They come running when they see us at the pear tree.
Choice 2—Leave the pears where they fall onto the grassy yard. If we take no action and leave the pears where they fall, then multiple problems arise.
The bees will take up residence inside the pears as the pears decompose, and the decomposition can last for days. Thus, the threat of being stung remains for many days.
The heaviness of the mower running over top of the pears will squish them flat, leaving a soggy mess all over the place, one that remains embedded into the mower’s tires and on the soles of our shoes whenever we cross that part of the yard.
The laziness of our inaction manifests itself into a much deeper mess than if we had just walked across the yard and tossed the pears across the fence.
The analogy of the pears reveals God’s truth today.
Are we where God desires us to be?
Are we doing what God has led us to do?
Are we where God has placed us but NOT doing His will but our own?
Are we seeing the “mess” but yet, still we remain out of God’s will?
Could we turn from where we are headed, go where God leads, and could we take this action—even today?
Danny Gokey sings a melody “New Day” that speaks of this new day bursting with hope, of how the old has passed away, and of how our eyes can see (in faith) because the LOVE of the Father has not forgotten or given up on us.
Listen to the melody today.
Even more importantly, grab our Bible and read God’s Word.
Read Genesis chapters 12 & 13 to remember how God led Abram to Canaan.
See instead Abram’s lie and disobedience.
See the consequence of Abram’s sin.
Also read 1 Samuel chapters 3 & 4 to remember how God led Samuel to obedience.
See Samuel’s obedience.
See the consequence of the prophet Eli’s past sin.
Do not believe me but believe the words of Jesus recorded for us within God’s Word. Hear the prayer of our Savior Jesus lifted to God for us, the church.
“Sanctify them in the truth, Your word is truth.
(John 17:17-18)
As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.”
God uses His children throughout their entire lives.
God calls to us and God sends us into the world.
God sends and oftentimes the troubles of this world and the aches of our bodies cause us to stumble on the path God has sent us to journey.
God walks with us on the path He has led us to go.
We must Not Fail to rely upon God, upon His strength and power.
God leads; His children must follow.
God calls; His children must listen.
God sends; His children must obey, must GO!
Let us say, “Here am I Lord, send me.”
The choice is ours to make. Today IS A Brand New Day!
Let us be brave & courageous.
Let us be ready & obedient.
