Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Something New. Some-ONE-New!

Have you (like me) ever tried to hold onto something too tightly?
Have you (like me) ever realized in the middle of our firm holding onto our “whatever,” suddenly, our hold begins to slip, our hand becomes tired, our arm becomes fatigued by the weight, and we just release the tight hold (just a bit)?
When we feel the slipping away of the “whatever” we have been holding onto so tightly, then the decision becomes:

Should we LET GO & RELEASE OUR TIGHT GRIP?
OR
Should we GRASP WITH ALL OUR MIGHT & REGAIN OUR TIGHT HOLD WE ONCE THOUGHT WE HELD?

Normally, in the tight holding, we focus upon the OBJECT we are holding, but today, consider the ONE who Tightly Holds Us.

US.

What is it deep within US that causes US to tightly grasp those things which We THINK We must hold onto and not release?  &

Is that which We HOLD onto so tightly really a life and death something We must hold?!! OR

Do we hold on so tightly….
Because we always have (held onto it)?
Because to let go (of it) scares us to death?
Because to release our death grip seems to look like a failure & We just don’t want to go there?
There are so many “BECAUSES” in this world that create anxiety, worry, and stressful heaviness in our hearts. We just don’t know if WE can let go!

Apollo LTD sings a beautiful melody about this titled “Patient,” a song that speaks of how our world continually shakes out of control, reminding US how WE need to be patient and wait upon the ONE who holds onto US.
The Bible has much to say about the tight hold We seem to THINK we need (to do) and the freedom found in releasing, in letting go.
Do not believe me in any of this because I too struggle in releasing my death grip.  Believe God’s Word, God’s Truth.

“Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past.
Behold, I will do something new,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

(Isaiah 43: 18-19)

“Surely, I have composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child rests against his mother, my soul is like a weaned child within me.
O Israel, hope in the LORD  from this time forth and forever.”

(Psalm 131: 2-3)

A something new!!!

“a roadway in the wilderness, [a] river in the desert” & a weaned child rests against his mother.
A release of the old, NOT to grab onto a new worry, a new anxiety, a new stressor.
BUT
A release of the old To Be Held By the One who gives us Something New.
We fall down, just as we did when we were toddlers.
We fall down and get bumps and bruises along the path of our lives.
We fall down, we may even cry, and we find we must crawl over to a sturdy object, a something stationary—-A Someone—-Who Anchors Us, Who Holds Onto Us—-Who Helps Us Stand Back Up & Begin Anew.
Just like a toddler (a weaned baby), we often need to be held, to be comforted, to be reassured.
May We ALL Lean In Toward God Today.
May We ALL Find Comfort Today.
May We ALL Be Held By the Father Today.
Walking with God is a process.  Do not give up.
Be Held by God. The Word of God reminds us—

“Blessed be the God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy caused us to be born again to a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you [and for me too], who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
In this you greatly rejoice,…”

(1 Peter 1: 3-6a)
