Greatly Rejoice in the HOPE!
- Maybe we have never met Dietrich Bonhoeffer or Corrie Ten Boon, but we know they exist.
- Maybe we have never engaged in a conversation with Martin Luther or Jonathan Edwards, but we know they exist.
- Maybe we have never heard a message preached by Dwight D. Moody or Billy Graham, but we know they exist.
- Maybe we have never died and entered eternity (yet), but we know it exists.
There are so many ways we can know others who have come before—existed. We can read historical accounts, biographies, and written accounts of their words spoken, and we believe—by faith—that what we are reading (the written history) is accurate. Furthermore, we can be assured that our present actions, touched by our past, will also affect our future destination.
There are so many ways we can know heaven, the place prepared for those who believe in Jesus—exists. Historical accounts written throughout the ages and God’s Word written over a 1,400-year time period reveals it so. The conviction of our sin by God’s Holy Spirit, the relationship with Jesus Christ we have received through faith, the salvation of God we have received, and the narrow pathway we are to tread in righteous living—remind us that heaven exists & awaits the saints of God.
Simon Peter, a follower, and disciple of Jesus, wrote—
“In this you greatly rejoice,
(The 1st Letter of Peter 1: 6a & 7b & 8-9 NAS)
[then Peter records trials, testing, perishable items]
. . .
may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
and though you have not seen Him, you love Him,
and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him,
you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.”
If we are not careful, we can allow our minds to focus completely on the here-and-now rather than placing our hearts on the eternal promise of our promised HOPE. The late Reverend Billy Graham said—
“Joy comes from a living, vital relationship with God. It comes from knowing this world is only temporary and that someday we will be with God forever” (Hope for Each Day 2012).
Just as the apostle Peter recorded—
- we believe, even though we cannot physically see; &
- we continue to see with eyes of faith, even though we are not there yet.
In the first book of the Bible, it is recorded how the first man (Adam) talked with God, walked with God, and existed with God. Then in the final book of God’s Word, it reveals the physicality of heaven’s existence, a place prepared for believers in Jesus Christ, where they will be with God.
John, a follower, and disciple of Jesus, wrote—
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth;
(The Revelation to John 21: 1-4 NAS)
for the first heaven and the first earth passed away,
and there is no longer any sea.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men,
and He will dwell among them,
and they shall be His people,
and God Himself will be among them,
and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes;
and there will no longer be any death;
there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain;
the first things have passed away.”
Yes, there are so many ways we can know others who have come before—existed.
We have physically hugged them, talked with them, shared meals with them, and enjoyed life with them.
&
There are so many ways we can know heaven, the place prepared for those who believe in Jesus—exists.
We have read historical accounts of those who professed to be followers and believers in Jesus Christ. We have studied God’s Holy Word, where physical descriptions, spoken words, and eyewitness testimonies are recorded.
- For those who have admitted their need for a Savior &
- For those who have believed through faith in Jesus, the Son of God, the risen Messiah sent by God &
- For those who have confessed their sin & professed faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
Heaven Exists!
- No crying or tears.
- No pain.
- No mourning, nor any death.
- No separation, for
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men,
(The Revelation to John 21: 3b NAS)
and He will dwell among them,
and they shall be His people,
and God Himself will be among them,”
Greatly Rejoice in the HOPE we have received because we have believed!
