Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

SO good

In the dark, I step into the morning, reaching for my phone as I move toward the kitchen.  With the light of the phone screen, I make my way down the hall and turn on a small light that immediately illuminates the room. “Coffee will taste so good,” remains my regular morning thought, and it always does taste SO good.

SO good.

Those words have settled on my heart, and I ask:  What is SO good?

Yesterday was a day of ‘SO good’ news from two sisters-in-Christ.  Both had doctor’s visits; both received uplifting news; and both shared their news through messages that came to my phone, proclamations revealing the power of prayer.

We have been given the opportunity to communicate with God, and PRAYER is something we need to do continually.  We receive the opportunity to intercede for one another, praying for our burdens, anxieties, thankfulness, concerns, worries, and elations.  We lift these prayers to Almighty God, knowing that He already knows what we will pray for even before we pray.  Thus in faithfulness, still we pray, trusting and knowing that the LORD always hears our prayers.  In searching God’s Word, we find the apostle Paul who wrote to the saints living in Greece, in Thessalonica, describing what the coming day of the LORD would unfold like for the living and the dead.  Paul tells us that as God’s child, we have the authority and the ability to live as God commands.

  • We can activate the presence of God through prayer.
  • We can live under God’s protection through prayer. &
  • We can live cognizant of God’s control on all situations through prayer.

Prayer is a privilege, a blessing, a gift, a peace, a duty of all believers, and SO good.

“Rejoice always;
pray without ceasing;
in everything give thanks;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

(The 1st Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians 5: 16-18 NAS)
  • We can “rejoice” even when life does not go well.
  • We can “pray without ceasing” knowing our Father hears our prayers.
  • We can “give thanks” “in everything” even when our circumstances are difficult.

Still we have SO many good reasons to thank God!

Pause to consider how we have received the incredible privilege of communicating with our Creator.

  • We humbly approach the God of the universe!
  • We can only do this because Jesus Christ made the way.
  • We can only do this because of our faith in Jesus as our Savior.
  • What a privilege and an honor and duty—to talk with our Father.

What an opportunity we have received, an opportunity to offer thanks, to continually stay in contact with our Creator and Savior.  Amazingly SO good.

A great American poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote:

“Earth’s crammed with heaven,/And every common bush afire with God;/

But only he who sees, takes off his shoes.”

We approach God’s throne through Jesus and metaphorically take off our sandals, fully aware that we are standing on Holy Ground.  We see Him with eyes of faith, seeing but not seeing; believing in Who we cannot physically see, knowing He hears our lifted prayers even when we cannot even utter a spoken word.

The Bible assures us of this truth.

For in hope we have been saved,
but hope that is seen is not hope;
for who hopes for what he already sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness;
for we do not know how to pray as we should,
but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words,
and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 8: 24-27 NAS)

Prayer is SO good.

  • Pray—believing.
  • Pray—humbly.
  • Pray—without doubting.
  • Pray—knowing God is sufficient; God is enough.
  • Pray—confidently, realizing the promise of the Bible.

SO good—God hears and answers our prayers.

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God,
so that you may know that you have eternal life.
This is the confidence which we have before Him,
that, if we ask anything according to His will,
He hears us.”

(The 1st Letter of John 5: 13-14 NAS)
  • Thank You, God, for sending Jesus to make the way for us to know You.
  • Thank You, Father, for providing the way for us to be saved.
  • Thank You, Jesus, for giving Your life, for paying the price of our sin, for sacrificing Your life and for resurrecting to new life.

You, Lord, are SO, SO Good!

SO good—the LORD’S power keeps us in “perfect peace.”

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.”

(The Book of Isaiah 26: 3 NAS)
