Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

The Thirstiness of our Souls

  • When we allow Jesus to fill us, to complete us, to quench our eternal thirst, then we have no space remaining.
  • When we allow God’s love to completely encompass our entire being, to become so overwhelming that His love even sloshes out, spilling onto our neighbors, then we are completely and utterly filled.
  • When we allow the Spirit of God to control our very next step, next thought, and next action, giving our decisions, passions, and desires completely over to Him, then we will find ourselves walking within God’s will.

The psalmist wrote—

“As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God;
When shall I come and appear before God?”

(The Psalms 42: 1-2 NAS)

When we allow Jesus to fill us, to complete us, to quench our eternal thirst, then we have no space remaining.  Within the Bible, we see firsthand examples detailing how this looks in our daily life.  The passage that comes to mind was when the woman, a social outcast, went to draw her water in the heat of the day.  She was fully aware of the best time of day to go to the well, to draw water, and she knew it was the cool of the day.  Yet here she was at noontime, in the hot part of the day, walking to the water-well to draw her water, for she knew she would not face the wrath of others—if she went at that time.

  • NEVER DID SHE CONSIDER THAT SHE WOULD MEET JESUS SITTING THERE THAT DAY!
  • NEVER DID SHE REALIZE THAT THE WATER SHE SOUGHT WAS NOTHING BUT THE ETERNAL LIVING WATER OF HER SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus was sitting there, waiting for her, when the Samaritan woman arrived at the well.  He asked her for a drink, astounding her for He was a Jewish man and she was a Samaritan woman. However, she was also an outcast because she was a woman who had experienced many husbands, and the current man she lived with was not even her husband.  Jesus knew everything about her situation, and still he approached her.

  • The evidence that Jesus held no container for the woman to draw the physical water for Him to drink was puzzling to the woman.
  • Just as crazy was the fact that this stranger (Jesus) knew everything about her past and her present condition.

The woman became intrigued and desired this “living” water this man offered, & then she ran to tell her friends about this man who knew everything about her & about how He saved her soul.

There is a desperate “thirst” within the world where we live.  Yes, there exists a deep need for God.

We will encounter (even today) others who are experiencing excruciating life seasons, those who need God so badly but who think God is too far away to help them.  For them, the devil’s taunts scream loud in their being:  “Where is this God who says He loves you?  He’s nowhere even close to you, nor can He help you.  You are a mess; who could ever love you?  You are too sinful, too unlovable, too messed up, and Jesus will never love you.”

The enemy, Satan—he is the father of lies!

“Jesus answered and said to her,
[The Savior spoke these words to the Samaritan woman]
“If you knew the gift of God,
and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’
you would have asked Him,
and He would have given you living water.”

“She said to Him,
“Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep;
where then do You get that living water?”

(The Gospel According to John 4: 10-11)
  • It is up to us, the believers, the children of God—to speak the TRUTH to those who are so extremely thirsty.
  • It is up to us—to share the promise of Jesus.
  • It is up to us, the saved & the redeemed—to share about the “living water Jesus provides for eternal life.”

When we allow God’s love to completely encompass our entire being, to become so overwhelming that His love sloshes out, spilling onto our neighbors, then we are completely and utterly filled.  Jesus satisfies!  Jesus saves!  Jesus sustains!  We must share the TRUTH with those who desperately need to drink the “living water of Jesus.”

As we allow the Spirit of God to control our very next step, next thought, and next action, giving our decisions, passions, and desires completely over to Him, then we will find ourselves walking within God’s will.  Then we will obediently witness and testify to others about our Savior Jesus.

ONLY JESUS CAN SATISFY THE THIRSTINESS OF OUR SOULS!

“Jesus answered and said to her,
“Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst,
but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

(The Gospel According to John 4: 13-14)
