A walk through life toward eternity

Teaching Our Children—By Faith We Come to Know God

“Now faith is
the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen.

For by it
[by faith]
the men of old gained approval.

By faith
we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God,
so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

By faith
Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain,
through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous,
God testifying about his gifts,

and through faith,
though he is dead,
he still speaks.

By faith
Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death;
AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP;
for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up
he was pleasing to God.

And without faith
it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is
and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 11: 1-6 NASB)

Bible scholar A.W. Tozer wrote:

“What comes to mind when we think about God, is the most important thing about us.”

This year, the new year of 2025, will bring a huge change to our family because there will be a little baby boy born this year into our family.  As this fact resonates within my being, it causes me to consider my worldview.  Do we exist & live & walk by FAITH?

  • Teaching our children about Jehovah is paramount.
  • Teaching our children that God is Love is our mandate.
  • Teaching our children how God sent His Only Begotten Son is necessary.
  • Teaching our children to see BY FAITH the Death, Burial, & Resurrection of Jesus is required if the next generation will SEE JESUS & WALK BY FAITH.

As parents and grandparents, we are given the most supreme task known to man.

Teaching Our Children—By Faith We Come to Know God.

When the Hebrews crossed the Red Sea, they left their bondage to the Egyptians and stepped into the land promised to them.  They had learned about God’s promise from their fathers, who learned about it from their fathers, who had learned about this same promise from their fathers.  One father taught his children, who then taught his own children, who then . . .

We can easily see the generational legacy of FAITH.

The lesson of FAITH taught began with the first man in the Garden of Eden, but then sin entered and the consequences of disobedience followed.  The Bible says so!

“Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.
The LORD God commanded the man, saying,

“From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”

(Genesis 2: 15-17 NASB)

Do we exist & Do we live & Do we walk by FAITH?

What are the lessons we (the parents & grandparents) are called to teach our children?

  • Jehovah God spoke the world into existence & we must believe it—BY FAITH!

“By faith

we understand the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” (The Letter to the Hebrews 11: 3 NASB)

  • We are to love God above all else!

“By faith

Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts,

and through faith,

though he is dead, he still speaks.” (The Letter to the Hebrews 11: 4 NASB)

  • We are to obey God in all things & walk by FAITH!

“By faith

Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.” (The Letter to the Hebrews 11: 5 NASB)

  • We are to seek God with all our heart!

“And without faith

it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (The Letter to the Hebrews 11: 6 NASB)

We are saved by FAITH!

Without FAITH, we are without HOPE!

  • May we raise our children and grandchildren to obey God.
  • May we raise them to come to know the Lord.
  • May we teach our children the MOST IMPORTANT LESSON OF ALL!

By Faith We Come to Know God.

These words,
which I am commanding you today,
shall be on your heart.

You shall teach them diligently to your sons
and
shall talk of them when you sit in your house
and
when you walk by the way
and
when you lie down
and
when you rise up.

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand
and
they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

You shall write them on the doorposts of your house
and
on your gates.”
. . .
“So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes,
to fear the LORD our God for our good always
and
for our survival,
as it is today.

It will be righteousness for us
if we are careful to observe all this commandment before
the LORD our God,
just as He commanded us.”

(Deuteronomy 6: 6-9 & 24-25 NASB)
