Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Who is God?  & What is God like?

“For the grace of God has appeared,
bringing salvation to all men,
instructing us to deny ungodliness
and worldly desires
and to live sensibly,
righteously and
godly in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope
and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself
for us
to redeem us
from every lawless deed,
and to purify for Himself
a people for His own possession,
zealous for good deeds.”

(The Letter of Paul to Titus 2: 11-14 NASB)

When I was in elementary grade school, my teachers often assigned topics to study, report, and share with my classmates.  Back then, like my peers, I did what most did. When assigned a topic, I walked to the school’s library, found the encyclopedia corresponding to the topic, sat down at a table, turned to the exact page needed, and began copying, word-for-word, the details about topic assigned to me.

Since 2019, my daily practice has become to copy the Word of God (the Bible).  Over time, I have discovered the power found within every single ‘word’ of God’s Holy Word.  It has taken much time for this truth to resonate deep within me; nevertheless, let me be frank:  I am so thankful the Lord has allowed me to discover this truth. Yes, I am so grateful how the Lord did not give up on the slowness I display in digesting the Lord’s teaching. As I continually copy each word, looking back-and-forth from the computer screen to the Bible, I am fully cognizant of every capital letter, every punctuation, every white space, and ever chapter break and heading. It is easy to see how one chapter bleeds into the next, when, as a child, I clearly thought one chapter was segregated from the rest. When we slow down our reading of the Bible, allowing ourselves to write every word, then we are not rushing by but absorbing each word God orchestrated for us. We allow our eyes to focus specifically.  Now, I am not a Bible scholar, one who has studied in seminary teaching by highly educated professors, although secretly, this is where I hope my life goes next.  However, I have been a student for the past thirty-three years, but during the last five years, my studies have taken on a whole new focus. In typing the words found within the Scripture, in sitting with the Bible nearby, and in copying it word-for-word, the God of the universe illuminates our hearts.

Reading slowly, diligently typing each word of a chosen Scripture has brought me closer to the Lord, even as I remain alive on this earth. Still, I remain a sinner, daily saved by God’s grace, and even still, I remain a messed-up person in need of the Savior Jesus Christ. Today, the topic assigned—God’s Faithfulness. As the LORD teaches, we ponder: Who Is God?  & What is God like?

  • The Creator is not some ‘unknown god,’ for the Bible says—God can be known though Jesus!

“How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
In Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.”

(The Psalms 89: 15-16 NASB)
  • Almighty God does not reside in just one temple, contained, for the Bible speaks how—God is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent!

“The God who made the world and all things in it,
since He is Lord of heaven and earth,
does not dwell in temples made with hands;
nor is He served by human hands,
as though He needed anything,
since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;”

(The Acts of the Apostles 17: 24-25 NASB)
  • Jehovah God will remain faithful to the end of all ages, for the Bible says so!

“O LORD God of hosts, who is like You,
O mighty LORD?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You still them.”

(The Psalms 89: 8-9 NASB)

Who is God?

  • HE IS FAITHFUL!
  • HE IS RIGHTEOUS!
  • HE IS KING of all kings!

GOD IS HOLY!

Our heavenly Father expects us to be people, His people, His possession, who focus ourselves on every word He has given to us in His Love letter written to us—the Bible.

“For the grace of God has appeared,
bringing salvation to all men,
instructing us to deny ungodliness
and worldly desires
and to live sensibly,
righteously and
godly in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope
and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
Christ Jesus,”

(The Letter of Paul to Titus 2: 11-13 NASB)

What is God like in His character?

  • HE IS THE SAVIOR & LORD!
  • HE IS THE REDEEMER SENT TO US FROM HEAVEN!
  • HE IS THE ONE WHO COMMANDS WE SEPARATE OURSELVES FROM THE WORLD SO WE MAY BE HOLY.

BECAUSE GOD IS HOLY!

Truly, God demands that we remember daily, praising God for the gift we have received through His Only Son Jesus, His salvation that will one day soon bring us home to heaven.  Help us LORD to daily be—

“looking for the blessed hope
and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself
for us
to redeem us
from every lawless deed,
and to purify for Himself
a people for His own possession,
zealous for good deeds.”

(The Letter of Paul to Titus 2: 13-14 NASB)
