Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

We May Be Only Bible Some Will Ever Read Until They See Jesus

“And Jesus said,
“Who is the one who touched Me?”
And while they were all denying it, Peter said,
“Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You.”
But Jesus said,

“Someone did touch Me,
for I was aware that power had gone out of Me.”

(The Gospel According to Luke 8: 45-46 NASB)

When I was a child growing up and attending the local country church, I do not recall many of my teachers talking much about the power of the Holy Spirit.  Looking back, it seems as if they were almost afraid to speak of what they did not know.  That was true then, and today, it remains the same.

  • We just do not talk about what we do not understand.
  • We just do not expound upon the One whom we cannot fully explain. &
  • We just stray clear away from the hard topics that seem to baffle us.

But this should not be.

That is correct.

The believer, the one who knows Christ Jesus as his Savior

  • Should study God’s Word.
  • Should learn all that he can about the One in whom he believes.
  • Should proclaim the Gospel every day he lives.

Not many days ago, I had the pleasure of hosting some students in our home.  The Easter holiday weekend was upon us, so I asked these particular students if they wanted to come home with me.

They said, “Yes,” and plans were set in motion.

We enjoyed great conversations around the kitchen table, watched television together, and enjoyed the sunshine while sitting and talking on my front porch.  Then Sunday morning came—Resurrection Sunday.  They said, “Yes” to my invitation to attend church, so because I am given the opportunity to teach Sunday School (and because I was their ride to church) these students arose early and went with me.

Sunday School passed, and then came the time for our corporate worship, the time when the whole church congregated together into one place.

It was easy to sense the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Fast forward to the following morning, the day after Easter, the day some nationalities call “Second Easter.”  We were driving back to campus that Monday, and I knew we would have an enjoyable conversation as the five of us drove west together.

The gift God provided was so unexpected and yet, so beautiful.

Usually we talk of classes, of soccer, and of other worldly things, but on this particular day, one student’s statement made my heart flutter, for—

I immediately sensed the moving of the Holy Spirit within my vehicle.

Her statement—

“Ms. New, I felt such peace in your church yesterday.”

For the next hour and half, questions were asked, answers were voiced, comments were made, &

God created an amazing miracle right there inside my vehicle.

The Holy Spirit gives us the words to say when we do not know what to pray.

  • So pray, even when silence is all that fills the room where we sit.

The Holy Spirit comforts us when we are deep in our despair.

  • So cry out to God, even when the heaviness of our heart seems too much to bear.

The Holy Spirit guides our steps as we walk throughout every day.

  • So walk with Jesus, going wherever He leads, even when we cannot see far into the future path ahead.

The Holy Spirit calls us to repentance, revealing to us individually, the sins we have committed.

  • So bow and pray today & tomorrow & the days that follow, allowing the Father to continually cleanses us of all our sins.

“because that which is known about God is evident within them;
for God made it evident to them.
For since the creation of the world
His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly seen,
being understood through what has been made,
so that they are without excuse.”

(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 1: 19-20 NASB)

We may not truly understand the depth of—God’s Mercy—

but still we are so thankful that it’s new from God every morning.

We may not be able to fully define—God’s Grace—

but still we accept God’s free gift of His salvation.

  • Who can see God?
  • Who can receive the salvation of Jesus?
  • Who leads all people to see the light of the world & to believe?

We May Be the Only Bible Some Will Ever Read Until They See Jesus

  • May we be ‘on mission’ today, as we go through this day.
  • May we be ‘the light on the hill’ we are called to be.
  • May we be doing whatever, going wherever, & saying the words the Holy Spirit leads us to speak.

For we who already believe—Unbelief Has Consequences to Horrible—that we should ever remain silent!

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
because that which is known about God is evident within them;
for God made it evident to them.
For since the creation of the world

His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature,

have been clearly seen,
being understood through what has been made,

so that they are without excuse.”

(The Letter of Paul to the Romans 1: 18-20 NASB)
