Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

The Blessing of Sharing Daily Minutes with the Father

“How blessed are those whose way is blameless,
Who walk in the law of the LORD.
How blessed are those who observe His testimonies,
Who seek Him with all their heart.
They also do no unrighteousness;
They walk in His ways.”

(The Psalms 119: 1-3 NASB)

David, a man after God’s own heart, celebrates how much he loves & depends on & rests upon the Word of GodMoment-by-moment obedience constitutes what David sought.

This morning as I was trying to get in my steps, I walked down sidewalks rather than on my country road.  On this hot, sunny morning, I enjoyed the beauty of walking in my daughter’s quaint town.  As I journeyed, walking first down one sidewalk and then the next, I heard the sounds of life as I passed by.  Then I came to the corner where I planned to turn and began to hear children at play in the town’s playground.  As I walked alongside the black gate surrounding the playground, I heard a dad say to his child, “Hey, buddy, you have five minutes, and then we need to go.”

Immediately, my mind went to a similar conversation, one my brother-in-law (Pops) told of his day with his grandson at the creek.

Then, a smile came to my face as I began to think of my nephew’s comments, the day he played in the creek, when Pops spoke these words to his grandson—

“Jay, we need to leave in a few minutes,”

to which, Jay replied—

“Pops, I don’t want no minutes.

I don’t like minutes, Pops.

Pops, I don’t want no minutes.”

We smile as we think of a two-year-old’s desire to continue playing and never leave the fun found in stomping through a creek.  We laugh and say, “That’s the way of a child,” but then we pause, considering the depth of this child’s words.

  • We wonder:  Is this how we are with Father God (with our ‘Pops’)?
  • We ponder:  Is this the response we often give to our Lord (to our ‘Pops’)?
  • Does Father God, who the Bible calls “Abba” say to us—

“Child, come share time with me.

Do you have time to sit with me, to lean into My Word, to be taught by My Holy Spirit?”

to which we oftentimes reply in our hunger to play, to stay in our selfish focus, to go our own way—

“Father, I just don’t have any minutes to give today.

Maybe tomorrow, God.

Then I will have time.

Yes, tomorrow, or even the day after tomorrow, but not today, ‘Pops’.

I don’t have minutes for You today.”

Today, may we be reminded—There Are Tremendous Blessings in Sharing Daily Minutes with the Father.

May we—

  • Read His Word to learn about the characteristics of God.

Let us—

  • Desire conversations with the LORD and spend time in His presence to enjoy the PEACE only He can bring.

Let us—

  • Pray throughout each day, praising His goodness and lifting the needs of others.

Oh, yes, let us—

  • Listen to worship music & sing to our ‘Pops.’

Most definitely, may we walk today with the LORD.

  • Let us journal our thoughts, our prayer requests.   &

May we—

  • Desire to become quiet, listening for Him to speak, as we sit at the feet of Jesus.  &
  • Focus our minds on what Father God is speaking into our lives.

May we—

  • Experience His blessings.  &
  • Grow deeper in our faith, allowing ourselves to be firmly planted within the stream of His living water.  &

May we—

  • Yield the Fruit of the Spirit, realizing that as we do, we prosper in doing His will, as we serve the world around us, serving as the hands & feet of Jesus.

We do have so many daily moments to serve!

We do have so many minutes to give to our ‘Pops’!

May We—

  • See with Clarity—The Blessing of Sharing Daily Minutes with the Father.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”

(The Psalms 1: 1-3 NASB)
