Light & Dark
On Sunday, Mother’s Day, mom won the flower (you know, the one given to the mom who has the most children present with her at church).
Five. That is the number of children present with mom this past Sunday.
We like to tease her and say, “One child for every day of the week,” a quip that she readily accepts and even seems to like.
My husband often asks me at the end of our workweek if we are getting together with my siblings because he knows that we are so silly acting, and normally laughter ensues from our time shared.
Yes, I am so very thankful God has blessed me with siblings, with flesh & blood brothers and sisters who enjoy laughing (and many times, the laughter we share comes from laughing at the antics of one another).
In the past, we had to be in the same location, the same room to enjoy one another’s company, but now, thanks to technology, we now have a way to share life, both the serious and the hilarious. Maybe you, like my siblings, enjoy group messages, ones where quick replies can be shared, lighthearted banter can be sent, back and forth, laughing as we read, laughing as we write our replies, laughing as we share life……together. Last night, the laughter came from the comment my “elder sister” sent (If she is reading, she will just LOVE that comment.).
“I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT…I just came from a soccer game…and the lights were magnificently shining brightly,” she texted as we enjoyed a quiet Monday evening in our separate homes. Mom happened to be with me, so as the messages arrived, I shared them aloud with her (since she was not included in this particular group message).
Now, these lights referred to are the pole lights shining down from above at her granddaughter’s soccer game—the same lights that one of my younger brothers replaces during his normal workday as head of maintenance for a local school system.
In a matter of minutes, one text message turned into two, then multiplied into four, and before long, everyone was involved in a silly conversation about the brightness of the pole lights and the “seriousness” of why these particular lights were actually so bright—-all thanks because of the due-diligence of my brother, the head of maintenance.
Today….as I write…..I am reminded of this silly conversation last evening about the bright lights, especially as I look outside my living room window to see the earth permeated in darkness. Soon, the sun will separate the night from the day, and we will a precious gift, one we receive every morning, a beautiful gift from God, a gift He gave to us at the beginning of time.
“The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light;” and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day” (Genesis 1: 2-5).
THE SPIRIT of GOD MOVED OVER THE SURFACE OF THE DEEP; & THE SPIRIT of GOD MOVED OVER THE SURFACE OF THE WATERS, & GOD SPOKE TO THE DARKNESS, & THEN THERE WAS LIGHT.
GOD MOVED. GOD SPOKE. GOD SAW. GOD SEPARATED LIGHT FROM DARK. GOD NAMED THE LIGHT AND THE DARK. GOD CREATED THIS “FROM THE BEGINNING.”
From the beginning of creation, God was in control. God controlled everything. God created everything. God saw what was needed, and God created everything needed from the void that existed. Why is this concept important to see on this Tuesday morning? & How does God’s miraculous creation of the world connect to our siblings?
The connection is found in this statement: We are placed within this world—-PEOPLE. We each come from different homes, different parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and different locations; YET, we are connected by one common thread—-The Salvation offered to us by God.
God knew (from the beginning of time) that we would need one another, brothers and sisters, connected by blood, but not human blood brothers and sisters as we know within our own families. God knew we needed “spiritual brothers and sisters” to walk through life with, to encourage, and who are encouragers to us. God knew!!!
I know that my earthly brothers and sisters are children of God. I know because—-
- We worship—-together;
- We talk about our faith—-together;
- We pray—-together;
- We walk through life—-together; & someday soon,
- We will go home to God—-together.
I AM MOST THANKFUL THAT EACH OF MY EARTHLY BROTHERS & SISTERS ARE ALSO MY SPIRITUAL BROTHERS AND SISTERS (IN CHRIST).
I KNOW THAT THEY KNOW GOD AS THEIR SAVIOR BECAUSE THEY HAVE TOLD ME SO. WE TALK OF OUR FAITH.
I AM ALSO MOST THANKFUL THAT THERE ARE OTHERS (FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS) WHO ALSO ARE MY SPIRITUAL BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WHO ALSO SHARE LIFE WITH ME HERE (on earth) & WHO ALSO KNOW GOD AS THEIR SAVIOR, AND WHO ALSO WILL GO HOME TO LIVE FOREVER IN HEAVEN.
- Light and Dark.
- Salvation and Separation.
- With God OR Without God.
- God came to give us life eternal.
- Let us ask our earthly brothers and sisters TODAY;
- Let us be 100% sure of where they stand in relationship with God.
- Let us also ask our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers, and even those God gives us to meet.
- Let us be 100% sure of where they stand in relationship with God.
