Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

“we have an everlasting Rock”

“He who dwells in the shelter of the
Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the
Almighty.
I will say to the LORD,
My refuge and my fortress,
My God,
in whom I trust!

(The Psalms 91: 1-2 NASB)

Years ago, during the time of my husband’s preparation for his first deployment to Iraq, I vividly remember standing in our bedroom, watching him pack his seabag.  To say this season of packing, of preparing, of expectation for the upcoming journey was NOT a time of jubilation.

I was a bit overcome with emotion.

Whenever I replay my life in my mind, this scene comes through a litany of times how the LORD has protected & provided & walked us through the storm.

One object I fully remembering my husband pack for his (then) first of many deployments was a camouflage handkerchief, one that had been gifted to him.  Upon this handkerchief were the words of Psalm 91, and as I sit today reflecting upon the storms that come to our lives, I am reminded—

It was NOT the handkerchief, nor was the seabag that my husband placed the handkerchief inside, but it was the—Promise of God, the Scriptureprinted on the piece of cloth, one that would travel with my husband to Iraq & one that would stay with him, until the LORD brought him back home.

Kari Jobe sings the beautiful melody “I Am Not Alone.”

Please pause to listen to the lyrics and dwell within the goodness of our LORD.

“I am not alone—YOU will never leave me!”

As a student of the Bible, we have probably studied how Jesus stills the Sea in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 4.

“On that day, when evening came, He said to them,
“Let us go over to the other side.”
Leaving the crowd,
they took Him along with them in the boat,
just as He was;
and other boats were with Him.
And there arose a fierce gale of wind,
and the waves were breaking over the boat
so much that the boat was already filling up.
Jesus Himself was in the stern,
asleep on the cushion;
and they woke Him and said to Him,
“Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea,

“Hush, be still.”
And the wind died down
and
it became perfectly calm.”

(The Gospel According to Mark 4: 35-39 NASB)

Review this narrative; see how the winds, the waves & how EVERYTHING BOWS TO HIS WILL!

Despite what storm comes unexpectedly, we can recall the words of the prophet Isaiah—

“For in God the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.”

  • When we face a devastating trial and “a fierce gale of the wind” slams against our resolve.
  • When the devil shouts that we are all alone within our struggle, we can turn to Satan and in Jesus’ name speak aloud the same amazing three words that will always suddenly and completely bring us calm—“Hush, be still.”

We are reminded how—JESUS IS SUFFICIENT FOR ALL!

Despite the chaos, the failures, the disease, or the sickness—THE PROMISES OF GOD ARE FOR ALL WHO BELIEVE!

  • Our Father is completely sovereign!
  • Our Savior, Our Redeemer, Our Creator is in total control!
  • Our LORD has a great plan regarding it ALL—whatever ‘ALL’ you may be facing today!

Thus, in closing, there are so many places within God’s Word where we can open to be reminded of our LORD’S protection; however, the one coming readily to my mind is found within Isaiah, the prophet’s song that he sung in the land of Judah, helping us recall—

GOD, THE LORD—WE CAN TRUST, FOR HE WILL FOREVER BE—“an everlasting Rock.”

My Bible translation titles Isaiah’s song—“Son of Trust in God’s Protection.”

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the LORD forever,
For in God the LORD,
we have an everlasting Rock.”

(The Book of Isaiah 26: 3-4 NASB)
