Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

TRULY—THE WAIT—CAN BE MOST TOUGH!

“Make me know Your ways, O LORD;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You
I wait all the day.”

(The Psalms 25: 4 NASB)

For the longest time, I could run like the wind, going great distances, sprinting short tracks, and even rounding bases on the softball field as I stepped on first, second, and third, heading home.  That was then; this is now, and in my ‘now’ time, I find myself walking, taking solitary walks.

As I read David’s words found within this Psalm, I wonder if David too found himself slowing down, walking more than running, being taught more than teaching, and allowing himself to be led into God’s truth as he (as David) aged.

Whenever people step outside to walk, sometimes they grab their earbuds to listen to their favorite tunes, and that can be pleasantly dangerous if they are walking along a busy road.  In The Netherlands, in the city of Kuypersweg, I have taken numerous early-morning solitary walks.  When I first began walking in this city, I took photos of every street sign, praying that these “breadcrumbs” of sort would lead me back to Marieke’s home.  Thankfully, they did, and never once did I find myself totally lost and unable to return.  That is not to say that I always knew where I was because in 2017, during my first trip across the pond, I was totally mystified by all the different street names.  However, over time, year-after-year, I began to remember and recognize, and even anticipate certain upcoming street names as I walked in the early morning.

I love to walk, listening to the early morning sounds of the birds and other animals arising from the night and to hear the families sharing breakfast and chatting as they prepared for their upcoming day.

There is a certain peace that comes through walking.  This morning, as soon as the dawn chased away the dark, I went for a walk.  My body needed it.  As I walk, the LORD teaches me, leads me, and reveals to me His path for the day.  Without walking with the LORD each day, we would move haphazardly, unfocused, and incognizant of what it is that the Father has designed for our day.

  • God will show us areas of our lives where we need adjustment.
  • God will speak to the places where we have been faithful to walk in His will.
  • God will admonish us to reveal those steps we have taken in our past when we have strayed off His path.
  • God will draw us closer and closer into intimacy with Him, but only as we choose daily to walk with Him.

That’s right!

Walking with God—It is an intentional decision, one each person, each child of God, must make—daily.

“Make me know . . .
Teach me . . .
Lead me . . .
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You
I wait all the day.”

(The Psalms 25: 4 NASB)

I must admit, the way the LORD makes us know, teaches and leads us are much easier than the way the LORD allows us to “wait all the day” for whatever life-decision, health-change, or relationship-restoration that we might be hoping to receive.

TRULY—THE WAIT—CAN BE MOST TOUGH!

You see—

  • We are not in control of anything!  I know, we think we are, but truly, we are not.  Nothing happens apart from God.  NOTHING!
  • We find that as we wait upon God, then we experience our vulnerability, a quite uncomfortable place to exist; however, within this anxiety-ridden location, we can step into God’s peace, as we wait.
  • We do not like to often see our “real” selves, preferring instead to see ourselves as we project to the world.  The fact that God sees as we truly are should be enough to remind us daily that it is impossible to hide our inner-selves from the Father.

The prophet Micah lived during a tumultuous time during Israel & Judah’s history.  His task was quite arduous as he had to speak truth when no one, the rulers nor the people, wished to hear the truth.  Nonetheless, Micah was a faithful prophet, one who was led by God to write—

“But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD;
I will wait for the God of my salvation.
My God will hear me.
Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy.
Though I fall I will rise;
Though I dwell in darkness, the LORD is a light for me.”

(The Book of Micah 7: 7-8 NASB)

If we look carefully at both David’s Psalm and Micah’s prophecy, we will see exactly where our minds should be focused as we wait.

We are never alone in our struggles.  NEVER!

Our enemy exists, but he knows his time is short, so let us glance his way, only, but—

  • LET US GAZE UPON OUR LORD!
  • LET US PLACE OUR SPIRITUAL EYES UPON OUR SAVIOR!
  • LET US NOT FORGET, SATAN IS AN ANGEL WHO HAS FALLEN FROM HEAVEN; YES, FALLEN & NEVER GOING BACK INTO GOD’S PRESENCE IN PARADISE!

So, we pray—

Thank YOU, LORD, for allowing us to watch and wait for YOU,

Even though the wait, truly can be most tough to endure.

Father, YOU alone are the God of our salvation.

Without YOU, there is no HOPE.

We thank YOU, Father, for hearing our cries &

We also thank YOU for lifting us up when we stumble and fall in the darkened world.

One day so very soon,

YOU will send one of YOUR angels to lead us home &

GOD, we find that we can hardly wait!

In Jesus’ precious name, we pray, today, KNOWING YOU ARE TEACHING US, LEADING US, & ALLOWING US TO ENDURE DURING—YOUR WAIT.

THANK YOU, GOD!
