Sharing Our Faith as We Walk Through Life
Over the last few days, I have found the pleasure of staying home, not driving anywhere, only leaving the property we call “ours” when my husband drove me to a new destination or when I took my daily walks.
- Have you ever taken a solitary walk?
- Have you ever taken an early morning walk or a late evening walk, one when you seemed to be the only one traversing that road?
- Have you ever been hiking and overwhelmed by the silence found within the forest?
- Have you ever found yourself standing at the day’s sunset, turning the sky glorious shades of orange, yellow, and flaming red?
- Have you ever been in nature and clearly heard the Creator calling out to you, possibly saying, “Child, come walk with me.”
- Have you ever been walking through life and heard the Holy Spirit whisper to your soul, “Child, share your faith, as you go through each day. Go! Tell the world about Me.”
The Passover feast was complete.
The week-long event was finished.
The throng of people within the city of Jerusalem were making plans to return home.
Others were still remaining (there within the city), caught in total disbelief that Jesus, the Savior of the world had been crucified and placed in the tomb.
- When Jesus resurrected from the grave—
- After His crucifixion on the cross—
- After His burial in the tomb—
There were many instances when He encountered believers.
Some He spoke with directly, while others shared a meal with Him.
The Bible speaks of others who were just going on with their lives, walking from place to place, talking about all that had occurred while they were in Jerusalem.
Do we have a responsibility to teach the future generations about God’s faithfulness?
To answer that question, please take out your copy of God’s Word to read with me—
“And behold, two of them were going that very day
(The Gospel According to Luke 24: 13-17 NASB)
[the day Jesus resurrected from the grave; the day Jesus overcame death]
to a village named Emmaus,
which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.
While they were talking and discussing,
Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them.
But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.
And He said to them,
“What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?”
And they stood still, looking sad.”
Cleopas, one of the two men walking the seven-mile trek that day from Jerusalem to Emmaus, could not believe this stranger who had joined them did not know what had just transpired during Passover. Surely Cleopas and the other believer scratched their heads in disbelief, wondering how in the world could someone be in Jerusalem and not know about Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross.
- We must remember, these two believers knew what had just occurred in Jerusalem & these men also knew why the chief priests and Jewish rulers had crucified Jesus.
- We must also recall how these two believers were among so many who had hoped Jesus was the One sent to redeem Israel, to set the people free from their oppression.
- We must pause to consider how these two believers had even heard the tales about how some women had gone to the tomb to anoint the dead body of Jesus and discovered the body was not there as it should have been.
- Finally, we must consider how these two believers walking on the road to Emmaus had heard the women’s report, how “they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.” (The Gospel According to Luke 24: 23b NASB)
Truly, these two believers were dismayed at all they had seen, experienced, heard, and discussed.
“Some of those who were with us went to the tomb
(The Gospel According to Luke 24: 24-27 NASB)
and found it just exactly as the women also had said;
but Him they did not see.”
And He said to them,
[Jesus spoke directly to these two believers]
“O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?”
Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.”
- Each day, do we have a place, a spot, a territory where we can go to be totally alone with our Savior?
- Each day, do we have a path to traverse, a road to walk, a time to commune with the Messiah?
- Each day, do we choose to go there?
IT IS TRUTH—
- We can know God’s will. We can stay on God’s path for our lives, the one He specifically set for us to walk. We can stay true to the path. We can also seek His forgiveness whenever we choose to step away, to stray from Him.
- We can encounter friends & family who are seeking Him, walking through life too. Maybe we will find them standing at a crossroad, not knowing which way to turn.
- We can encounter them, encourage them, pray with and for them, that they will sense God’s leading in the best decision to make.
- We can remind them that Jesus is always clear in His Word and that we just need to be within His Word and in daily communication with Him to hear Him speak.
That particular day way back when those two believers were walking “to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem,” they had a great amount of time to talk with this “stranger” they encountered. After Jesus “explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures,” they neared the village, and they invited this “stranger” (who they still did not recognize) to stay the night with them.
So Jesus stayed the night with them.
Jesus also reclined at the table to eat a meal with them.
Jesus blessed the food & handed it to these two believers.
“Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him;
(The Gospel According to Luke 24:31 NASB)
and He vanished from their sight.”
- Truly, these guys could not hardly believe Who had been walking with them all along.
- Truly, they questioned whether they had known Him all along.
- Truly, they wondered if they had known it was Jesus who had taught them the Scriptures.
- Truly, all this is recorded as TRUTH in God’s Word.
Notice what they did next.
“And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem,
(The Gospel According to Luke 33-35 NASB)
[they walked back the seven miles that same evening]
and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them,
saying,
“The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon.”
They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.”
Do we have a responsibility to teach the future generations about God’s faithfulness?
Jesus speaks to us through the Bible, telling us how we must be—Sharing Our Faith as We Walk Through Life.
Jesus speaks the next words to Christians—to us—the believers.
“You search the Scriptures because you think in them you have eternal life;
(The Gospel According to John 5: 39 NASB)
it is these that testify about Me;”
