Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

“I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.”

Early this morning (3:12am), I received a WhatsApp message:

“Hey mom . . .”

Then continued some details about her Saturday, about her day of fun, & about our upcoming conversation a day later this week.

Having read through the entirety of her message, I found myself staring at the closing line:

“I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.  I love you!” and I began to be amazed how the Holy Spirit is faithful to speak to us, even through technology:  a WhatsApp message.

It was that final sentence that held me, the promise, the hope, the anticipation.

“I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.”

As I studied passages of Scripture this morning, over and over, my mind continued to return, turning over the question—What makes a person “have a wonderful Sunday”?

Since we know the Word of God provides the answers for all of life’s questions, it would be prudent to look to the Bible, to see what the LORD has to say about the way we can “have a wonderful Sunday.”

In The Letter to the Hebrews, the Holy Spirit led the writer to compose how Christ-followers are called to LIVE & WALK in “A New & Living Way”; hence, always recalling & dwelling within

GOD’S PROCLAMATION:  “I LOVE YOU!”

“Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

by a new and living way

which He inaugurated for us through the veil,

that is, His flesh,

and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

1. let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,

having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

2. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,

for He who promised is faithful;

3. and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,

4. not forsaking our own assembling together,

as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another;

and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 10: 19-25 NASB)

Today, in just a few minutes, I will leave home to attend church, a place, a building, one I have faithfully attended since 1989 (early in our marriage).  During these years, my husband has become an ordained deacon, while I have become an adult Sunday School (small group) teacher during the morning session and also during an evening session.

While our church is not a place made up of perfect people, we still attend because we know it is a commandment of God to keep the Sabbath.  We enter our church building, surrounding ourselves with “THE CHURCH” with those who are Believers (like me), with those who have accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts (like me) & with those who are all meeting there together (with me).

We may bring our hurts, our worries, our concerns, our testimonials of faith to share, our griefs, our stories of joy, our tears we shed on the altar, our sins, our fears, & through our whatever  . . .

  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have a wonderful Sunday.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have community.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have edification.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have a place to study God’s Word together.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have a location to serve one another.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have an opportunity to display God’s love for our brothers & sisters-in Christ.”
  • We bring ourselves to church, and we “Have a Sabbath shared in togetherness.”

In the words of the wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, a man given wisdom by Almighty God—

“The mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps.”

(The Proverbs 16: 9 NASB)
  • Today, on this day of Sabbath, will you allow the LORD to have His way?
  • Today, on this day of Sabbath, will you allow the LORD to direct your steps?
  • Today, on this day of Sabbath, will you allow the LORD to lead you to church?

“I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.”

Why?  Simply Because—

God Loves You!
