A walk through life toward eternity

Better the Earth Burn than A Soul Be Lost

“Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
For it was fitting for us to have such
a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;
who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because
this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 7: 25-27 NASB)
  1. What are we praying for today?
  2. What about yesterday?
  3. Who do we know who is lost & not ready to die?
  4. Who have we encountered who is a breath away from eternal separation from God?

Do we really believe in the power of prayer?

Yes, some would think it would be far better for ‘the end of time’ to come today, that it would be Better the Earth Burn than a Soul Lost to God, and that’s how they live, selfishly glad they are saved but uncaring others remain lost.

In April 2024, there will be a Total Eclipse, and astronomers predict millions of people will stand in awe as the sun is blocked totally by the passage of the moon.  Some will be close enough to the passage of this Total Eclipse as it occurs across the center of America to feel the 10-degree drop of temperature.  They will begin to hear the silence as the birds believe night has fallen and they are driven to their nightly perch, when in fact, the daytime still exists, but currently will be perceived to be night.  The sky will be illuminated with stars, and several planets in the solar system will be visible to the naked eye.  People will stand in awe, wearing their special glasses, with their heads titled back, seeing only BLACK as the entire sun is blocked by the moon.

  • Some will stand for several minutes this way.
  • Some will stand this way for less minutes.

Truly, I was present in 2020, standing in the courtyard of the local high school, surrounded by colleagues, co-workers, all of us amazed by what we could barely understand but suddenly could see.  This April 2024, we receive the opportunity to stand amazed again in the middle of the day, when the SUN GOES DARK!

This describes the way a lost soul finds salvation through Christ Jesus!

Once, the person stands in total darkness, unseeing, in need of warmth of the Son’s light upon his soul.  Then, all at once, the person becomes aware of the depth of darkness he is experiencing, feeling it deep within him.  The quiet is deafening.  He hears only his heartbeat.  He sees nothing but the small distinct light there in the dark—where only complete darkness existed a second ago.  Then, as he tilts back his head, searching, expectant, hopeful—he will not be disappointed.

For all at once, the darkness of ‘lostness’ begins to fade, & the understanding of his ‘lostness’ becomes more and more apparent.

  • He sees his need of the Son’s light.
  • He sees his need for Jesus!
  • He feels the anguish of the way his sins separate him from Christ Jesus!
  • He suddenly knows he is totally lost & in need of the Savior!

Tauren Wells sings the melody “Like You Love Me” recalling exactly how God Loves Us!

On the night of Jesus’ crucifixion, earthquakes occurred, the sun darkened in the middle of the day, and EVERYONE ON EARTH KNEW SOMETHING AMAZING WAS HAPPENING!

“It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,
[from noon until 3pm, darkness covered the earth]
because the sun was obscured;
and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said,

“Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT.”
Having said this, He breathed His last.
Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.”

(The Gospel According to Luke 23: 44-47 NASB)

This armed Roman who had participated in the crucifixion of Jesus was not wrong, for Jesus was innocent of all sin.  Yes, Jesus died sinless—

  • Innocent of EVER committing any sin!

The world knew when Jesus died that day, something miraculous had suddenly occurred!

  • Darkness does not cover the earth at noontime.
  • The thickness of the veil in the Jerusalem temple can NEVER be torn in two pieces, falling open, exposing the Holy of Holies.
  • A Roman centurion commanded to take life would NEVER praise God for the one he was crucifying! &
  • The person being crucified COULD NEVER commit his last breath by his own power—BUT JESUS CHRIST COULD & DID!

Would it be Better the Earth Burn—than A Single Person Remain Lost to God!

Do we live, selfishly glad we are saved but uncaring others remain lost?

Child of God, are we praying today, lifting up those who are walking the earth, lost in the darkness of their sins?

Christian, who do we know, walking through life, lost & in need of God’s Amazing Grace.

Yes, who do we know who is truly not ready to die?

  • Who should we pray for, lifting up to God?
  • Who should we witness to about the saving grace of Jesus, the Messiah and Redeemer.
  • Who needs to meet Jesus today?

The salvation of the Great High Priest—Jesus!

“Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

(The Letter to the Hebrews 7: 25 NASB)

The apostle John reminds in the Bible the power of our prayers.  As we lift our prayers, as we ask God for help, & as we lift up the names of those who are lost—lightning flashes, thunder rolls, earthquakes happen—as we pray on behalf of those who need Jesus!  We know because the Bible tells us so!

“And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints,
went up before God out of the angel’s hand.
Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth;
and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.”

(The Revelation to John 8: 4-5 NASB)
