Created for One Purpose
“The LORD has made everything for its
(The Proverbs 16: 4 NASB)
own purpose,
Even the wicked for the day of evil.”
When first reading this verse in Proverbs, we might pause on the stand-alone words ‘wicked’ & ‘evil’ rather than pausing on the phrases:
“The LORD has made . . .”
“everything for its own purpose, . . .”
Why is that? Why is it that our natural man turns against what is lovely and turns toward what is ugly?
Solomon writes in this Proverb the reason why.
“The plans of the heart belong to man,
(The Proverbs 16: 1-4 NASB)
But the answer of the tongue is from
the LORD.
All the ways of a man are clean in his
own sight,
But the LORD weighs the motives.
Commit your works to the LORD
And your plans will be established.
The LORD has made everything for its
own purpose,
Even the wicked for the day of evil.”
- We are breathing.
- We are alive.
- We are God’s creation.
- We are worth fighting for because—
We are a living, breathing person whom the LORD has created &
He fashioned you, me, and every person alive for one solitary reason—
for us to share life within His presence.
This week, I have been studying the biblical narrative found in Genesis 11 when the people attempted to construct the Tower of Babel. While studying, I find myself amazed that the people wanted to build a stairway to heaven. What an image!
In studying this narrative, we discover the biblical truth necessary. The people did not desire to build the stairway so they would be able to ascend to the heavenly realm of heaven.
No, their intent was not so lovely.
The people desired to create a tower, a ziggurat to entice ‘the gods’ to come down to earth, to do the work they wished for these gods to do.
Let that last bit of information sink deep.
“All the ways of a man are clean in his
(The Proverbs 16: 2 NASB)
own sight,
But the LORD weighs the motives.”
- We are breathing.
- We are alive.
- We are God’s creation.
- We are worth fighting for because—
He fashioned every person alive for one solitary reason—to share life within His presence.
As I found myself intrigued by these ‘ziggurats’ that reached high into the skyline, these ‘stairways to heaven,’ I discovered there is a famous 4,100-year-old example called The Great Ziggurat of Ur located in Iraq (ancient biblical Babylon). Now, in seeing these constructions, I found it fascinating how these stairways rose up from the ground, high into the sky, and when the people determined ‘the top,’ they created a room, a bedroom of sort, where the gods could come down and rest upon the bed that was placed inside this high room. This must be equated with what we think of today when we see a skyscraper with a penthouse on its top floor.
What intrigued me most is that the people found in the biblical narrative of Genesis 11 did not climb the staircase for they did not want to transcend to the gods.
The people’s hearts desired something much more wicked.
Their hearts desired that the gods would descend downward, that the gods would come down to earth where mankind lived in his home.
Clearly, there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE!
Truly, there is only ONE ALMIGHTY, OMNISCIENT, OMNIPRESENT, MOST-AMAZING LORD GOD!
MOST-ASSUREDLY! &
We have another biblical account found in the Gospels proclaiming a time GOD did come to earth in the form of a babe in the manger—Jesus, the Son of God!
“The plans of the heart belong to man,
(The Proverbs 16: 1-2 NASB)
But the answer of the tongue is from
the LORD.
All the ways of a man are clean in his
own sight,
But the LORD weighs the motives.”
What are we praying for today?
- Are we praying as Jesus taught?
- Are we praying for—God’s Kingdom come & His will be done on earth as it is in heaven?
(a paraphrase of The Gospel According to Matthew 6: 10)
OR
- Are we praying for our kingdom to be happy & for the Lord to help us get our will, our agenda done?
We were Created for One Purpose.
- To come to know God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, His Only Son!
That’s why Almighty God made mankind in His image!
Once we become a living, breathing, child of God, we are—
- To live in submission to the Father’s will, &
- To walk in fellowship with the Holy Spirit of God, &
- To follow the leading of the Lord Jesus Christ.
That’s why Almighty God created mankind!
Solomon walked with God & Solomon was a man who asked God for wisdom & Solomon was granted what he asked—because his heart was committed to pleasing the LORD.
Solomon recorded these words in the Bible, words that are so very needed, even today.
“The plans of the heart belong to man,
(The Proverbs 16: 1-4 NASB)
But the answer of the tongue is from
the LORD.
All the ways of a man are clean in his
own sight,
But the LORD weighs the motives.
Commit your works to the LORD
And your plans will be established.
The LORD has made everything for its
own purpose,
Even the wicked for the day of evil.”
