Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Less of us means—MORE of HIM!

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba!  Father!”
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

(Romans 8: 14-17 NASB)

There is a wonderfully, beautiful opportunity God has provided.  You see, since the year of COVID (2020), I have taken up the habit of falling.  One moment, I am standing on my own two feet, and the next, I am either flat on my back or planted on the floor in the seated position.  Now, let me pause to clarify why I keep falling:  my silliness.

Yesterday evening, I said to my younger sister, “I just need to stop falling if I am going to heal and stop being in constant pain.”

Let us pause right here to see two spiritual truths of God.

  1. Falling from our present standing leads to pain.
  2. Healing will come when we cease falling down from where we stand.

There is a lovely seventy-five-year-old lady I have had the pleasure of meeting.  We met through a shared friend (bless her heart for introducing us).

Now that we have been introduced, this older lady has come to my aid in the time of back pain and has become a part of my monthly care.

Yesterday, we sat in her house at her dining-room table talking together (one of my favorite parts of our time together).  We share so much:  believers-in-God, daughters, mothers, educators, sisters-in-Christ.  As we sat talking, I discovered something new we share—

Her mother died at age seventy-six, and next month, my lovely friend will turn seventy-six.  She has been thinking about her mom’s last year of life so much lately as the 17th of September draws near (my friend’s birthday).

My father died in March 1999 when he was walking through his fifties.  This month, I will turn fifty-seven.  I have also been thinking about my dad’s last year of life so much as the 20th of August draws near (my birthday).

  • May we walk throughout our days and be led less by our own passions and desires as we allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide us more!
  • May we desire for our character to be shaped less and less by our old nature and more and more by the nature of our Savior!

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba!  Father!”

(Romans 8: 14-15 NASB)
  • As children of God, we have been adopted, and now we are sons and daughters.
  • As God’s children, we have received the right to cry out to our Father.
  • As God’s offspring, we are led throughout each day by the very Spirit of God.
  • As God’s sons and daughters, we can know that we know that we know—we belong to God—because:

“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”

(Romans 8: 16 NASB)

Stand still.  Let us allow the wonderful TRUTH of GOD to settle over us.

We have a beautiful inheritance as God’s children!

“and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

(Romans 8: 17 NASB)

We may suffer here on earth with physical or emotional pains, even suffering as we share our testimony and witness of the LORD;  nonetheless, we are sealed with the promise of God.

  • Thank you, my dear friend who will turn seventy-six.
  • Thank you for helping me in my time of physical back pain.
  • Thank you for reminding me monthly of this great and wonderful God we serve.

Thank You LORD for bringing this precious one into my life.

  • Help us LORD to NOT “fall down” in our faith, in our daily walk with you, &
  • Help us LORD to “stand tall” with You within each day You give us to live.

“So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—
for if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die;
but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

(Romans 8: 12-13 NASB)
  • Less of you means—MORE of HIM!
  • Less of me means—MORE of HIM!

May this be our daily prayer.
