A walk through life toward eternity

His Hands & His Feet Prove “It is Jesus!”

For as long as I can remember, hands and feet have intrigued me.  I love to watch how the tendons move beneath the skin at the command of the brain.  It’s fascinating to watch the way a foot or a hand moves.

Now, for some I know, the topic of touching another’s feet really “creeps them out,” but then for others who practice reflexology, the ability of healing can come through one touching another’s feet.

Hands.

Feet.

Consider for a moment:  The hands and feet of Jesus contain the marks where the spikes were driven through when He was crucified.

Consider also:  The hands and feet of Jesus Christ the Messiah contain the marks for the spikes that were driven through when the Savior died for you and me.

Yes, let us consider!

After Jesus’ crucifixion and burial, He was seen by many, and during that time, the Bible records how one doubted the truth that Jesus arose from the dead.  He doubted and he wanted proof.  Amazingly, it was the “hands and feet” of Jesus that helped Thomas see the truth that he sought.

May we read together the truth of God’s Word.

“But Thomas, one of the twelve, who was called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!”  But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them.  Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said,
“Peace be to you.”
Then He said to Thomas,
“Place your finger here, and see My hands;  and take your hand and put it into my side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.”

(John 20: 24-27 NASB)
  • Many doubt God is “for real.”
  • Many doubt Jesus is the Savior of the world.
  • Truly, doubting is a state of being where many live.
  • Then there are others who know God is real & who acknowledge Jesus came to save and heal; yet they remain trapped within their lostness, apart from the saving Grace of Jesus.

There are those who know God is real and even sense the Holy Spirit’s prompting of their heart to repentance.

BUT—

So many (all of these who do not know Jesus as Savior) still need to turn toward Jesus and the salvation He offers.

As they (all of these who have not received the salvation of God) remain in their place of indecision, Jesus remains seated at the right side of God, awaiting the moment He will return to earth.

As they remain in their place of indecision, Jesus remains there at the Father’s side, and Jesus’ hands and feet still retain the marks of the nails, the very marks that Jesus showed to His disciple Thomas.

“Then He said to Thomas, “Place your finger here, and see My hands;  and take your hand and put it into my side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.”
Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him,
“Because you have seen Me,”
[the nail imprints there on Jesus’ hands and feet & also Jesus’ pierced side]
“Because you have seen Me, have you now believed?  Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

(John 20: 27-29 NASB)

His Hands & His Feet Prove “It is Jesus!”

The eleven disciples saw Him and knew it was true!

Even Thomas saw Jesus’ hands, and Thomas believed.

Thomas knew Jesus was Lord and God standing there in the flesh.

Jesus knew that to SEE is to BELIEVE.

Jesus also knew that after He ascended back to heaven, many more would BELIEVE even though they could not SEE Jesus in the flesh (as His disciples did).

Today, many struggle to BELIEVE.

Many struggle to SEE the truth of God.

Many struggle to KNOW Jesus as their Savior & Lord.

Is it because they need to see the nail-scarred hands and feet of Jesus?

Is it because they need to hear the words of Jesus:  “do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer”words that we can share with them.

Easter is approaching.  The season of Lent is upon us.  This may be the time hearts are ready to hear about our Savior Jesus.

  • May we be diligent to obey our Savior’s Great Commission!
  • May we remain faithful servants to our Lord!
  • May we help them to really SEE the TRUTH of God & the nail-scarred hands and feet of God’s only Son.
  • May we help those we know SEE the TRUTH!
  • May we encourage those we know, those who surround us, those who remain lost:  “do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.”
  • May we lead them to SEE the TRUTH found in JESUS—before it is truly too late!
