Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Seeing Is Believing

“And when He had said this, [“Peace be to you.”] He showed them both His hands and His side.  The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
So Jesus said to them again
, “Peace be to you;  just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

(John 20: 20-21 NASB)

In this world where we live, we like to see how an object changes from this to that.  In fact, as a child, my brother and I had some toys that changed from one object (like a toy shaped as a man) into another object (like a toy car).  It was like two toys in one and the best of two worlds.

Maybe that’s why we are alive.

Most assuredly, once we accept Jesus into our heart, we become new & changed.  We may look on the outside just as we have always looked, but everything about us—changes.  Suddenly, we have inside us the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit.

If we were a person filled with curse words, now we are convicted when a word slips through our lips.

If we were a person filled with rage, now we are filled with the Prince of peace.

If we were a person who exclaimed, “There is no God,” we now know the truth and are assured that Jesus Christ, our Savior, now resides within us.

Jesus changes everything!

Jesus begins a journey within us, one we walk with Him as He leads us home to heaven.

People need to “see” how Jesus has changed us, and as they do, then they encounter the Savior.

People need to “see” our actions.

  • People need to “see” the words we choose.
  • People need to “see” the way we make our decisions.
  • People need to “see” the way we react to life-situations.

People need to “see” how we have been changed, and as they do, they see Jesus!

Let me illustrate this with a story of an elderly man who I knew as a child.  Adults told me how he was a manager of a construction team, but what I knew to be true was the sweet spirit he seemed to have within him.  Oftentimes, he would stand from his center-aisle seat when the pastor asked for a testimony, and then as tears streaked down his ruggedly, aged face, I listened as he recounted the way Jesus changed his life.  Always, Bill would say, “If only I had not waited until I was eighty-five to accept the Lord into my heart.”

It is a truth, Bill did not have too many years left to live once he became a Christian, and whenever I go to the church cemetery to clean off my dad’s headstone, then I also see Bill’s headstone.  With a heart filled with joy, I am reminded how Bill is there too (in heaven) with all the other saints who proclaimed Jesus as Lord.

Our testimony does not need to be earth-shaking, one filled with “church-filled” words when we tell others about the Savior who resides in us—BUT OUR TESTIMONY IS EARTH-SHAKING TO THE UNBELIEVER!

Our testimony does not need to be fantastical, one filled with lights, mystical actions, and words of power—BUT OUR TESTIMONY IS FANTASTICAL & FILLED WITH THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD WHO PERFORMED A MYSTICAL ACTION WITHIN OUR SOUL THROUGH THE POWER OF GOD!

Our testimony is ours to share with those who surround us!

I once was blind, BUT NOW I SEE!

I once was lost, BUT NOW I AM FOUND!

I once was wandering in the darkness of sin, BUT JESUS WASHED ME CLEAN FROM WITHIN!

  • Our Christian life is a journey for all to see.
  • Our Christian life is a pilgrimage, one we walk each day, toward our home in heaven.
  • Our Christian life is a moment-by-moment stepping with Jesus as He guides our thoughts, our actions, and our words.
  • Our Christian life is to be a reflection of the man—JESUS—who lives inside us.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah proclaims:

“And now says the LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant,
To bring Jacob back to Him so that Israel might be gathered to Him
(For I am honored in the sight of the LORD,
And My God is My strength),
He says,
[Almighty God says] “It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the protected ones of Israel;
I will also make You a light of the nations
So that My salvation may reach the end of the earth.”

(Isaiah 49: 5-6 NASB)

When the world surrounding us SEES how we have been changed, they too may come to believe.

When the world surrounding us HEARS about the One who has changed us and made us brand new, they too may come to accept Christ Jesus.

When the world surrounding us OBSERVES the way we have been transformed from within, they too may come to confess, believe, and accept Jesus as their Savior.

  • May we share Jesus with the world of people we encounter today.
  • May we remember:  Seeing Jesus in us JUST may lead them to Believe!
  • May we take seriously the Great Commission we have been given.

“I will also make You a light of the nations

So that My salvation may reach the end of the earth.”
