Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

LOVE: Faithful & True!

“Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

Revelation 21: 5b

There’s a funny story we (girls) like to tell.  It’s a tale of a man who has been married to his wife for many years, and when asked:  Does your wife know you love her?  The man replied, “She should.  I told her way back when I married her, and if it ever changes, then I’ll tell her.”

Our walk with Jesus cannot ever become like this!  Funny as that story might be, we cannot ever allow our “spiritual marriage” to our Savior to become lackadaisical.  We must be intentional, yes, always faithful in our walk with our LORD.  We are the bride of Christ Jesus, and as such, we are to walk in close relationship with Him daily, seeking to remain close beside him, allowing His Holy Spirit to guide us as we go, and praising our Father as we proclaim our love—every single day!  The Christian journey surely never becomes a one-time love affair but an on-going, daily, and everlasting—LOVE!

In reading the account of Joshua’s leadership role with the children of Israel and remembering how wavering the people of God appeared to me, it becomes so easy to point a judgmental finger at them and think:  I am thankful I am not like them, when really we should hang our head in shame, realizing that we are, in fact, just like the children of Israel.

**That statement even hurts as the words appear on the screen.

Look with me at Joshua’s question and the answer provided by the children of God.

“Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; . . .
But if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, [if you REFUSE to serve the LORD] choose for yourselves today whom you will serve:  whether the gods which your fathers served, which were beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living;  but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
The people answered and said, “Far be it from us that we would abandon the LORD to serve other gods;”

(Joshua 24: 14a & 15-16 NASB)

Initial promise.

Intentional.

Hopeful.

Long-Lasting.

But then, we must decide:  Will we honor our vows on an ongoing basis?

We must choose, yes choose daily, Whom we will serve.

  • Will we choose the gods of our fathers?
  • Will we choose the gods of the land where we live?

OR

  • Will we choose to serve the LORD?

Every day we are afforded to live, we must remember To Whom we have given our heart!

Every day we have breath in our lungs, we must proclaim, “LORD, I love YOU!  Today & Every day!”

Long-time preacher Dwight L. Moody said it this way:

“Now, just think a moment and answer the question, “What shall I do with the Jesus who is called Christ.”

Our vow to follow Jesus as Savior, Redeemer, King, and LORD is a daily love affair, on-going, forevermore, everlasting, and eternal.

  • May we live within the span of this one day we have been given, fully aware of WHOSE we are & WHOSE we serve.
  • May we live and serve the LORD our God as we walk through our day.
  • May we point others to Jesus, so they too can fall in love with our Savior Jesus Christ.
  • May we boldly speak the gospel message, telling the world how Jesus is & will always be—our ONE TRUE LOVE!

May we LOVE:  Faithful & True!

“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying,
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.”
and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes;  and there will no longer be any death;  there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain;  the first things have passed away.”
And He who sits on the throne said,
“Behold, I am making all things new.”  And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

(Revelation 21:  2-5 NASB)
