WHY JESUS CAME TO LIVE AMONG US!
If you want to grow in love, you should hang out with loving people.
If you want to grow in the love for others as Jesus taught us to love, you should walk with Jesus.
Today, I am asking myself a question:
Jesus came to earth to bring the salvation of God to all humanity!
Beyond this vitally important reason (the purpose of providing salvation for our souls)—
Why did Jesus need to come to spend thirty-three years upon this earth?
If we are people who are skeptical of this man named Jesus, then we may not know Jesus as Savior and Lord.
If we are people who are believers (Christ-followers) of this man named Jesus, then we know Jesus as Savior and Lord, but do we understand exactly why our Father God sent Jesus to live among us?
- Thank goodness, the Word of God tells us why. &
- Thank goodness, the Bible leads us to understand the why. &
- Thank goodness, the Holy Scriptures show us the why.
While there are so many passages from the Bible that we could read, let’s read together one particular passage written by the Apostle Paul, a man who was an educated man & a skeptic of Christ Jesus when Paul lived as the man named Saul. In his letter to the believers living in Thessalonica, he wrote to reveal the truth about WHY JESUS CAME TO LIVE AMONG US!
“Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you;
and may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you;
so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.”
(1 Thessalonians 3: 11-13 NASB)
- One day, whether we are prepared or not, affliction will come our way, and when it does, we will need Jesus.
- One day, whether we are watching for the trials, these troubles will knock on our door, and when they do march into our lives, we will need Jesus.
- One day sooner than we like, each person will die, and when we do, we will need Jesus.
- One day soon, each person will stand before God, and when we do, we will need Jesus.
JESUS CAME!—FOR AT LEAST FOUR REASONS & FOR SO MANY MORE!
- JESUS CAME—SO WE COULD KNOW THE LOVE OF GOD—FOR WHEN WE ARE CALLED BY GOD TO ABOUND & OVERFLOW WITH LOVE FOR OTHERS WHO NEED TO SEE THE LOVE OF GOD IN ACTION & WORD!
- JESUS CAME—SO WE CAN LEAN ON HIM AS OUR FRIEND—FOR WHEN WE FACE THE AFFLICTIONS THAT COME INTO OUR LIVES!
- JESUS CAME—SO WE CAN REST UPON HIS ARMS AS HE HOLDS US UP—FOR WHEN THE TROUBLES OF LIFE MARCH IN AND TRY TO KNOCK US DOWN FOR GOOD!
- JESUS CAME—SO WE CAN KNOW HIM IN RELATIONSHIP & SO WE CAN RECEIVE HIM AS SAVIOR & LORD—FOR WHEN WE STAND BEFORE ALMIGHTY GOD!
In reading about Jesus, I read these words that I share with you:
“You don’t really know Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.”—Timothy Keller
- JESUS knows firsthand about the struggles of this world. He Lived Here!
- JESUS knows foremost about the trials that come. He was Beaten & He was Bruised (for all)!
- JESUS knows Almighty God more than anyone. He is the Son of God!
- JESUS knows the sins of the world. He bore them all (the sins of the whole world) upon the cross of Calvary and then gave up His life only to rise again to new life!
- JESUS is the Messiah, Savior, Redeemer, & Lord!
- It is JESUS whose righteousness we must know—for we each will stand before Almighty God!
Truly, it is a “HALLELUJAH” moment!
Jesus came to earth to bring the salvation of God to all humanity!
“But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of His suffering death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”
(Hebrews 2: 9 NASB)
The Question: Why did Jesus need to come to spend thirty-three years upon this earth?
The Answer: Jesus came to earth to bring the salvation of God to all humanity!
“by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”
Truly, it is a “HALLELUJAH” moment!
“For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters,
saying,
[we who are the children of God]
[we who have asked Jesus Christ to be our Savior & Lord]
“I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BROTHERS,
IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY
I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE.”
And again,
“I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.”
And again,
“BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN
WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME.”
(Hebrews 2: 11-13 NASB)
Truly, it is a “HALLELUJAH” moment!
“Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
and free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
For clearly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendants of Abraham.”
(Hebrews 2: 14-16 NASB)
The Question: Why did Jesus need to come to spend thirty-three years upon this earth?
The Answer: Jesus came to destroy Satan and death!
“and free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.”
Why did Jesus need to come to spend thirty-three years upon this earth?
Truly, it is a “HALLELUJAH” moment!
“Therefore in all things He had to be made like His brothers so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people [reconciliation for our sins].
For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.”
(Hebrews 2: 17-18 NASB)
The Question: Why did Jesus need to come to spend thirty-three years upon this earth?
The Answer: Jesus came so we could overcome temptation & walk in faithfulness to Him!
“He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.”
May we desire to grow in our love for others (loving as Jesus taught us to love).
May we stay in close fellowship with God.
May we walk hand-in-hand with God’s Holy Spirit.
May we keep our eyes continually fixed upon our Savior—Jesus Christ!
