DO NOT SIN—AT ALL!
This is an emphatic statement, pretty cut & dried. As the statement stands, there really is no “wiggle” room, no position where we (the children of God) can say, “Well, I just need to tell this small, little lie,” OR “I just need to keep this one little indiscretion for a short while, and then everything will be okay.”
NOPE. OUR GOD IS A GOD OF TRUTH!
AS SUCH, OUR GOD IS A GOD OF JUDGMENT!
JEHOVAH GOD SPEAKS WITH CLARITY—DO NOT SIN—AT ALL!
How are we doing?
Are we still waking up each morning, living within this sinful world, wearing cloaks of “infidelity, murderous thoughts, deceit, moments of hatred, speaking with lying lips, or worshipping manmade idols”?
How are we doing—with this whole—DO NOT SIN—AT ALL!
We can throw out the all-to-common, “God knows we are human, and as such, weak vessels. He understands.”
We can continue to walk within our sin, reasoning in our hearts that our sinfulness is so small in comparison to the “GREAT SINS” found within the world.
We can look past our own indiscretions, peering at the SINFUL WORLD instead, hoping that God won’t take time away from the “BIG SINS” to bother with our “little-bitty sins.” Surely God has more to do than pay attention to our little white lies, our moments of anger, our outbursts of meanness, our unlovely actions, our hard-heartedness, our lustful thoughts, our worship of something other than God, our ________________________.
Surely the God of the universe has more to do than pay attention to our “wee, little, unimportant error of our ways.”
Surely.
DO NOT SIN—AT ALL!
“No sin is small.
It is a sin against an infinite God, and may have consequences immeasurable.
No grain of sand is small in the mechanism of a watch.”
—Jeremy Taylor
Shew! That’s pretty clear.
We sin & somehow, some way, someone will need to pay—for that sin—and when that sin is realized, then the payment (the consequences) could have a much greater impact than when we first imagined that “our little sin wasn’t hurting anyone but ourselves.”
- First—“No sin is small.”
- Second—“Our sin is against an infinite God” and not against anyone else—Our sin is not against anyone other than the Great GOD ALMIGHTY!”
- Third—”Our sin has consequences” that we cannot even count because the number is so large.
- Fourth, “No grain of sand is small” when it enters the inner-workings of our watch because that tiny, little grain causes all kinds of havoc to the watch and could really just stop the watch from running all together.
Today, I am convicted of the ENORMITY of SINFULNESS within MY LIFE!
Forgive me Father.
Forgive me God, for my wayward heart, my focus upon anyone but You, for my lies that cross my lips when I speak, for my selfish thoughts and ways, for my hard-heartedness, for all the ways I sin against YOU.
“Wonderful, Merciful Savior” by Selah is a beautiful melody that says so much. Listen today and receive a blessing.
In the Bible, the apostle John wrote with authority because he wrote with God’s authority to help us understand the enormity of SINS COMMITTED AGAINST GOD.
But praise be to our merciful, matchless God who sees our sins and hears the words spoken of our Advocate, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Praise God, we, the little children, have an Advocate with the Father, an Advocate who is the atonement for our sins.
SEE WITH ME GOD’S HOLY WORD.
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate [an Intercessor] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
and He Himself is the propitiation [atonement] for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”
(1 John 2: 1-6)
This is pretty straightforward. There is no “wiggle room,” no small sins against God.
This is so clear; there is no place for compromise when we walk through life with Jesus, walking with the presence of God’s Holy Spirit living inside us.
Timothy reminds us who God is in relation to us.
“For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.”
(1 Timothy 2: 5-6)
We are also reminded that this “ransom for all” was a one-time sacrifice.
Jesus Christ, our Advocate, our Savior, our Redeemer—needed only to offer Himself ONE TIME upon the cross to cancel the debt of humanity’s sins. ONLY ONCE!
“For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own.
Otherwise He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
(Hebrews 9: 24-26)
DO NOT SIN—AT ALL!
LET US!
“It is a sin against an infinite God, . . .” (Taylor)
Let us take this admonishment—SERIOUSLY!
Let ME take this admonishment—SERIOUSLY!
And IF & WHEN we do SIN,
Let us PRAY, asking God for His forgiveness.
Let us REMEMBER how Jesus Christ, our Advocate, our Intercessor, remains seated beside God, offering intercession on our behalf.
Praise God—for the gift of Salvation!
Praise God—for the gift of Jesus Christ!
Praise God—for His Grace & His Mercy!
Praise God!
