A walk through life toward eternity

On-Mission, Not Going Alone But With the Holy Spirit of God, Himself!

C0MMISSIONED—ON-MISSION

What does the word mean to Christ-followers, to those who have chosen to believe the truth of Jesus, to those who now call themselves the “children of God”?

What does co-mission really mean?

In the on-line dictionary, the definitions vary between two specific parts of speech (noun and verb—between a person, place, thing & an act of doing, of doing an action).

COMMISSIONED—”CO” AS IN ON-MISSION “TOGETHER” WITH OTHERS.

ON—MISSION.

A—GOD-GIVEN MISSION.

As a Noun, the dictionary definition reads this way—

“an instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of people”  OR  “a group of people officially charged with a particular function.”

As a Verb, the dictionary definition reads this way—

“to give an order for or authorize the production of”  OR  “an order granting the power to perform various acts or duties, or the right or duty to be performed, or a certificate that gives military or naval rank and authority, or the rank and authority given one received as his commission in the military.”

On-Mission.  Together.  It is with co-workers and not totally accomplished alone.

On-Mission.  Individually accepted but collectively performed.

It is a “co”—mission!

Why are we commissioned together with other believers?

Why does God’s Word show us how the disciples of Jesus received “The Great Commission” to “Go therefore into the world . . .” and Why have we (the believers) also received this same commission?

SEE WITH ME GOD’S WORD as seen in the book of Matthew.

Jesus had been crucified on Calvary’s cross—for your sins, for my sins, for the sins of mankind.

Jesus had paid the price of humanity’s sins—with His very life!

Jesus had died and was placed in a borrowed tomb.

Jesus remained there, in the tomb, for three days.

God rolled the stone away from the tomb’s opening so those who came after the Sabbath to prepare Jesus’ body for burial might perform their task.

The body of Jesus Christ was not there—inside the tomb!

God resurrected Jesus from the dead to new life on the third day!

The chief priests bribed the tomb guards with large sums of money to lie.

“You are to say, [of the disciples] “His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.”

(Matthew 28: 13)

The soldiers (the tomb guards) accepted the bribe.

“And they took the money and did as they had been instructed;  and this story was widely spread among the Jews and is to this day.”

(Matthew 28: 15)

In other Scripture, we are told how Jesus was seen by more than 500 others for forty days after His resurrection to new life.

Jesus also met with His disciples.

“But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.

When they saw Him, they worshiped Him;  but some were doubtful.

And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying,  “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;  and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

(Matthew 28: 16-20)

Why does the Bible reveal to us how the disciples were commissioned?

Why does the Bible reveal to us how the early church was commissioned?

Why does the Bible reveal to us how we too are commissioned?

I do not know God’s thoughts (on the why) because they are so much higher than my thoughts, but I do know my thoughts and the way I might be tempted to “give-up” the mission of discipleship—IF NOT FOR OTHERS WORKING ALONGSIDE ME—ON MISSION—TOO.

Together, on-mission, with other believers.  Wow!

Together, on-mission, with Jesus, Himself!  Wow!  Wow!

Commissioned by the Holy Spirit of God & Promised:

That we never witness—alone!

That we never speak to unbelievers about The Way to know Jesus—alone!

That we never baptize new believers—alone!

That we never teach new believers—alone!

That Jesus Christ is always with us, even to the end of our earthly life—We are NEVER ALONE!

WOW!

WOW!

WOW!

WOW!

10,000 X 10,000 MORE WOWS!!!!!

Just like the believers living in the day of Jesus’ earthly ministry, we are commissioned to Go.  &

Just like on the Day of Pentecost when they were all together in one place, we are commissioned to Go. &

Finally, Just like the day they were all together, ready to go—AS COMMISSIONEDGOD DID NOT SEND THEM OUT—ALL ALONE!

“Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised,

‘Which,’ He said, ‘you have heard of from Me;

for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’

So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, ‘Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?’

He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;  and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

(The Acts of the Apostles 1: 4-8)

Just like the church at Antioch on the Day of Pentecost, where the disciple Peter stood to preach, &

Just like the disciples were commissioned.

We are commissioned to Go! &

Since we are On-Mission, We Need to Remember, We Do Not Go Alone But We Go With the Holy Spirit of God, Himself!

AT THE MOMENT OF OUR SALVATION—GOD FILLS US WITH HIS HOLY SPIRIT!

IT IS A PROMISE OF GOD!

IT IS A TRUTH!

WE ARE SENT, BUT WE DO NOT GO ALONE—EVER!

There are a few things God has reminded me of through His Word:

  1. Our time on earth is brief, we must take our commission seriously because it comes from Almighty God.
  2. Our commission is “an instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of people officially charged with a particular function.”  We are to spread the gospel message of Jesus Christ with the world.
  3. Our commission is “an order granting [us] the power to perform various acts or duties, [and our commission is] the right or duty to be performed.”
  4. Let me & Let You—NOT Take Our Commission Lightly.  It comes from God, Himself.

HALLELUJAH!  THANK YOU GOD—FOR YOU!

WE DO NOT WALK ALONE!

THANK YOU, GOD—THAT WE WALK WITH—YOUR PRESENCE LIVING INSIDE US—EVERY SINGLE DAY!
