The LORD & the rest of the universe
What do people need?
What about the beasts of the fields? What do they need?
Then there are the creepy-crawly things. What do they most need?
The birds of the heavens. The fish of the sea. The wild donkeys. The wild goats of the high mountains. What do all these things need? Oh, and then the earth, the mountains, the waters, the sun, moon, and the stars—What do each of these—All Need?
A common thread connects each of these—The LORD!
The psalmist meditates upon the truth that all of these need the LORD, how they each cannot survive without the LORD, and how the LORD must be praised because without Him, nothing exists!
Today, the passage necessary is so long, and I truly hope you will read the chapter in its entirety. For now, SEE WITH ME a few verses the psalmist writes, revealing how EVERY SINGLE PERSON, BIRD, FISH, BEAST, AND EVEN the UNIVERSE—NEEDS THE LORD!
“Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, You are very great;
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak,
Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.
He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
He makes the clouds His chariot;
He walks upon the wings of the wind;
He makes the winds His messengers,
Flaming fire His ministers.
He established the earth upon its foundations,
So that it will not totter forever and ever.
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
At Your rebuke they fled,
At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away.
The mountains rose; the valleys sank down
To the place which You established for them.
You set a boundary that they may not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.”
(Psalm 104: 1-9)
What do each of these—Collectively Need?
EVERY SINGLE PERSON, BIRD, FISH, BEAST, AND EVEN the UNIVERSE—NEEDS THE LORD!
Everything. Everyone. Need the LORD.
Each of these—Collectively—Need the LORD.
So, I wonder, what needs repaired within our world, within our universe, within us—today?
What part needs the LORD’S healing?
What person needs a touch from the Master Healer?
Who feels broken and needs to be re-made?
Who senses a lost, a forgottenness, a separation, an aloneness?
It is a TRUTH—EVERY SINGLE PERSON, BIRD, FISH, BEAST, AND EVEN the UNIVERSE—NEEDS THE LORD!
It is the LORD GOD WHO—
Sends forth.
Waters.
Causes.
Brings forth.
He made.
He appoints.
“O LORD, how many are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your possessions.“
(Psalm 104: 24)
Everything waits for the LORD because it is the LORD WHO—
Gives.
Opens His hand.
Takes away the very breath of mankind, beast, bird, and fish.
Returns them to dust.
Sends forth His Spirit (His breath).
Creates.
Renews the face of the ground.
“Let the glory of the LORD endure forever;
Let the LORD be glad in His works;
(Psalm 104: 31)
It is a TRUTH—
There is the LORD & then there is the rest of the universe.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON, BIRD, FISH, BEAST, AND EVEN the UNIVERSE—NEEDS THE LORD!
It is the LORD GOD WHO—
Looks and Touches His creation.
“I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
Let my meditation be pleasing to Him.
As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD.
Let sinners be consumed from the earth
And let the wicked be no more.”
(Psalm 104: 33-35a)
What do people need?
What do the beasts of the fields, the creepy-crawly things, the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea, the wild donkeys, the wild goats of the high mountains, the sun, moon, and the stars—What do each of these—All Need?
They All Need to Lift Their Voices & Proclaim—
“Bless the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD!”
