Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Leading Others to SEE As We Also SEE

Years ago, my grandpa was bedfast, and on the day grandpa died and left this earth, he lifted up his legs and moved them as if he were running toward something, toward Someone.
On another day, years later, my mother-in-law died, and on that early morning, she opened her eyes so wide, not really looking at us but SEEING something, SEEING Someone who we could not see with our physical eyes.
On & On & On & On—So many stories of death and what we SEE (what Believers, children of God) as we go home.

“Come and SEE.”  These three words have the powerful potential to change a person’s heart, behavior, life, and eternity.   Do not believe me but believe God’s Word. Andrew was a man who knew the importance of those three words; he acted upon them, physically speaking them aloud, asking those he met, encouraging others to come & go with him as he went to SEE Jesus.

“One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him [Jesus], was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He
[Andrew] found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).
He
[Andrew] brought him [Simon] to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him
[Simon] and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).”

(John 1: 40-42)

On and on and on and on and on—-the account written in the Bible records the first converts who heard the Apostle John speak of Jesus, the Lamb of God.  John did not just say, “Listen to me as I describe the man Jesus (a man from Nazareth).”  Instead, John introduced them to Jesus by bringing Jesus into their presence so those standing there could SEE JESUS with their own eyes.  “John said to them, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36).

Jesus did the rest!!!

Two who knew John well followed Jesus and Jesus saw them following.  “Jesus said to them, “Come, and you will SEE.” (John 1:39).

  • John led those two to SEE Jesus.
  • Andrew led Simon (his brother) to SEE Jesus.
  • Phillip (from the same town as Andrew and Simon Peter) was led to SEE Jesus.
  • Phillip found Nathanael and told him about Jesus of Nazareth, and when Nathanael was skeptical, Philip said, “Come and SEE” (John 1:46).

See the pattern!
Notice the way individuals led others to SEE Jesus, those who were close friends, those who lived nearby, and even those who were first skeptical.
People need to SEE Jesus still today.   Are we leading others to SEE the Son of God?
There it is—Evangelism at its core—One person leading another person, who then leads another person, who then believes and leads another…On & On & On & On & On &…

Who do we know who needs to SEE Jesus?
Do we care about them enough, about the consequences they will face if they don’t (SEE JESUS)?!!!

Jesus Himself said on the mountain one day, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).

Children of God love others.
Children of God lead others to SEE the Savior of the world.

“SEE how great a love the Father has bestowed” and because we are His “we are called” the children of God; and such we are.
For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be.  We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will SEE Him just as He is
[SEE Jesus with our physical eyes].
And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself just as He is pure.”

(1 John 3:1-3)
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith is who we will SEE with our physical eyes one day when we go home.
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith is who made us in His image, who we’ll be just like because we are His.
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith gives us an eternal Hope.
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith calls us children of the most Holy God.
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith purifies our hearts.
  • Who we SEE with our eyes of faith transforms us, preparing us from the inside out to share eternity within the presence of God.

LORD,
Help us SEE what contaminates our hearts and pollutes our lives. Help us SEE what others notice about us, actions that hinder them from SEEING YOU.   Purify us.  Cleanse us.  Make us into worthy vessels, living in service to YOU.  Forgive us for our selfish behaviors.  Forgive us for our self-centered walk through life.  Give us an evangelistic heart to lead others we know (within our families, within our friend groups, within our workplaces, and within our towns and communities) to Come & to SEE & Know YOU.
Help us lead those we know to SEE Jesus.
Our task is so simple, LORD. We speak with them, we lead them to You, & then YOU DO THE REST!!! YOU speak to their hearts the words every person needs to individually hear.

“Come, and you will SEE.”“Follow Me.”“Truly, Truly I say to you, you will SEE the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

(John 1:39, 43, & 51)
