Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

Are We Living & Just Busy OR Are We Living & Fruit Producing?

We are moving into the harvest season, quite possibly the best season of all for various reasons.  Consider—-

The harvest brings a coolness to the air, one that a sweatshirt or small jacket quickly remedies.  It’s so wonderful that we do not yet need the outer attire associated with the deep cold of winter. During the autumn season, a crispness permeates the bookends of each day, as we walk into the cool of the morning and then return in the cool of the evening once a day’s work is done.

The harvest also brings the glorious fruit hanging heavy in their trees, fruit we have anticipated since we first became aware of their blooms earlier in the spring.  Yes, now those fruit hang heavy upon their branches, often bending down the branches toward the earth, as if the tree intentionally desires to aid the harvester in his gathering.

The harvest clearly cannot occur without a planting of a seed or without a growth of the fruit.  Clearly, there must be SOMETHING to harvest in order to SEE a harvest.
Is that not true with us as well?!!!!

Generally, when we speak of fruit and harvest, if not speaking of delicious food, then we are speaking of God’s Salvation and the great harvest of Jesus’ Coming, and we would be speaking truth.
Yet, there is another fruitful harvest to consider for this one moment of a day.
What fruit are we allowing God to produce within our lives? OR
Are we scurrying so from this to this to this and this, only to fall into our beds, exhausted and feeling unfruitful?
God never called us to be BUSY!
God called us to be FRUITFUL.

  • In fact, God calls us BLESSED when we are FRUITFUL
  • In fact, God tells us that we will be like a tree planted near a river, one with deep roots absorbing all the necessary LIVING WATER as we are fruitful.
  • In fact, God reminds us that we do not even need to live in fear when the heat of adversity and turmoil and struggles arise because we are rooted and deeply held by God.
  • In fact, God assures us that our lives will still BEAR FRUIT as we are sustained even though a season of drought, one where we scratch our heads, look at our lives, and ponder, “God, what now?!!!”
  • In fact, even then, we are reminded through God’s Holy Spirit not to become anxious but to faithfully live for Him as we are FRUITFUL.

Do not believe me; believe God’s Word spoken by the prophet Jeremiah.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is in the LORD.
For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
And will not fear when the heat comes,
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.”

(Jeremiah 17: 7-8)

May we be planted where God has placed us.
May we not be overcome with anxious thoughts and fear found within this world.
May we extend our roots down deep into God’s Word, soaking up all of God’s truth He provides.
May we remain alive saturated by God’s Living Water, sustained and fruit-bearing.
May we be ever mindful that we will face seasons of heat and seasons of drought, as well as seasons of plenty.
Yet, may we also be daily reminded how God cares for His own, how God is the Master Gardener, and how it is God who will gather us and take us home to eternity once our season of life is complete.
Let us be reminded today that God never called us to be busy, to have lives so consumed.
Let us remember how God calls each one of us to BE FRUITFUL.
