Morning Thoughts

A walk through life toward eternity

A Life-Altering Moment & The Change We Receive

There are sudden moments in life, powerful moments, life-altering moments that could take our breath away if we were not anchored to the Master.
There are sudden moments that we cannot see coming (both beautiful ones as well as most horrible ones); yet moments that change the course of our lives just the same.
One moment we are walking into and throughout our day, and in a moment, we are scrambling to pick up a thousand shattered pieces or we find ourselves so overwhelmed with emotions that we cannot begin to know how to respond.
Moments change us.
Moments involve touch, and most importantly, the most important moments involve the touch of the Master, of a most Holy God.
One Touch.
One Promise.
One Word.
One Moment.

Things can change in our lives…..in a moment.
I have been so blessed to be a teacher for numerous years.  Yes, hanging out with seventeen to twenty-something—year-olds has brought me such JOY, and even today, as I prepare to drive an hour to teach, I find this JOY exciting, maybe because I am allowed to stand in the MOMENT with my students.  That’s right.  We are together  (IN THIS MOMENT OF THEIR LIVES), and never will we live this moment, this day, this semester again, & so we HOPE to do so many things IN THIS MOMENT.
NO, I do not mean we are given time to do school-related things, even though we do learn  in this moment too.

Let me explain with some examples.

  • I have known a student who was legally blind, who experienced a life-altering moment when he realized that he was walking into an irreversible blindness for the rest of his adult life.
  • I have known at least three students who read my lips during class because they were legally deaf. How they survive today with our mask-wearing is difficult to imagine.  Each of these were born with hearing impairment, and each one of these precious ones reached a moment in their lives when they suddenly realized….This is my fate in life.  I can live in JOY, or NOT.
  • One year, a young student of mine experienced a horrible ATV accident and then endured the rest of his senior year wearing an upper body cast.  Surely his life changed in a moment.
  • Now I am blessed to teach a young man who told me earlier this week how he wakes up, falls out of his bed onto the floor (on purpose).  He does this each morning before he straps on a prosthetic leg.  Then he eats his breakfast with the wind on his face as he rides his scooter around campus and then to class.

And it makes me wonder—What’s my excuse for complaining whenever my life-moments don’t exactly go as I planned!!!!!!!
Each one of these beautiful students have taught me (are teaching me) the wonderful realization God provides for us in our LIFE MOMENTS.
God’s Word speaks of our moments.  Do not believe me but read with me.

[Jesus said] “He who believes in Me [who believes in Jesus Christ], as the Scripture said, ‘From this innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ “

John 7:38

On September 15th at sundown, Yom Kippur began, and it will end today, September 16th.  The Jewish celebration of a new year, a new beginning, a new start, a NEW MOMENT to RECEIVE.

SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE TODAY MAY JUST RECEIVE A BRAND-NEW START TODAY—JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR & LORD.

Believe in God.
Trust Him with all our moments & Trust God with this ONE Single Moment of Decision.
Allow His living water to flow in and through us…Right Now, this Moment.
Expect A Life-Altering Moment & Ask….
How am I expecting God to move IN & THROUGH me today—-in Each Moment & right now—-in this moment?
